It would be even funnier if McDonalds weren't actually present on every continent, save for Antarctica! I'm seeing a TON of McD's advertising throughout China, during the 'man on the street' news footage of the olympics. I wonder if any other country in the world has a restaurant chain that is sooo pervasive.

There sure are a LOT of Tim Horton's doughnut shops all across Canada. It has become a part of Canada's collective cultural consciousness.

They are also in ten American states, and they have one at the Canadian Forces base in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Well, any centralized gov't has an advantage in mobilizing and coordinating such as building massive projects. Compared to our rail project, infrastructure projects in China are massive and being done lightning fast. We've been squabbling for decades for rail or no rail. So, one could argue for communism in that aspect.

Perhaps, but at least the people have a say. salmoned says no. I say yes, but at least salmoned is still around to voice his opinion, not arrested and hauled off in some undisclosed labor camp.

The Chinese government will do what they damn please, because they think they know what's best for them, whether the people know it or not.
