  • Netscape 9.0

I have been testing out the latest Netscape 9.0. It is based upon the latest Firefox. But more importantly it doesn't have the memory leak issue that Firefox has. There was some snags in getting some of my extensions to work. But overall, i think I found my new primary browser.

    Re: Netscape 9.0

I remember when Netscape went to 7.0 and it became soooo slow to load up. That's when I went to IE.

    Has Netscape gotten faster?

Yes it has- it is significantly faster. They totally revamped it using Firefox browser engine. It even can use Firefox extensions. One caveat is the fact
that the compatibility with the Firefox extensions is not 100%. I've had to "bump" extensions to make them compatible.

Yup there is 9.0 version now. It runs pretty good too. Plus it uses less memory than Firefox.

Firefox has a bad memory leak problem. I tested Netscape 9 out. It went up to 120MB of RAM when i had multiple tabs opened. When I closed them. It released 60MB of RAM.

Well, NS9 looks good. Even allowed me to move the tabbed browsing windows in any order I like (a big plus over NS8). My gripe is that it does not have a profile manager for multiple profiles.

I tried to create a profile using the solution in the FAQ, but I couldn't access the Profile Manager feature.

Glad it didn't uninstall my NS8. I like my profiles for NS8.

Officially only FF 3 Beta 2 is the main
