Sounds like he is a corporate raider a well-funded entrepreneur who is readying himself for the changes he sees coming soon. He has already started, if I am reading correctly in the Wiki article, with water rights and investments in wind power and natural gas.

I'm thinking he doesn't want to lose the cash flow that the petroleum industry has provided, and is headed elsewhere in search of $$$.

I agree he is a savvy businessman. No doubt the winds of change are blowing in the overall power industry. I've seen his commericial, but not the website and stuff.

Wind, and onsite solar will be the future. The grid will die, from cell phones, sat TV, and solar/wind power. Each unit (house, building, etc) will stand on its own.
