  • Flash drive to boost ram

A friend turned me on to this tip to greatly speed up your computer which I found some info on at - www.mobilefun.co.uk/blog/2009/09/how-to-speed-up-your-computer-using-a-usb-flash-drive
    Anybody here tried it?
Some have said it can only be done with Windows XP, but this site seems to say it can be used with some other Windows.

Look's like Vista now has the option built in, but unless your memory is chock full it won't change much. And you gotta use a flash with twice as much GB size as you already have, plus it only will work with systems w/2GB of ram or less. Hmmmm...., and some are saying it's a gimmick. But my friend got great results.

As the link says it can be used with Windows Vista or Windows 7 OS and not for XP. It works but remember the read write rate of most flash drives are kinda slow compared to your RAM Modules so don't expect a tremendous boost.

With Windows 7 coming online soon you won't need as much RAM as Vista needed (about half as much). And like your friend indicated, your RAM capacity has to be maxxed out in order for the Ready Boost to kick in. For the most part, if you're simply surfing the net or emailing people you won't see much gains. For gaming remember the transfer rate won't give you steller performance gains.

Yeah, this is best used with a small power laptop to get the real bennies, or if the memory is packed and dragging the speed down.
Vista has it's own similar thing, so no need there.

Advanced System Care (free) has two features that boost gaming applications as well as managing RAM better with Smart Ram.
