It sounds like the modems power supply unit is going south [going to break
real soon]. The heat should not be a issue as long as the modem is in
a ventilated area. If I were you I would just go the local Oceanic Time Warner
office and get a modem replacement. Make sure you bring your current
modem. They should gladly exchange the modem. I'm suggesting that as
it seems the problem is not going away. These modems are supposed to be
warm, it is perfectly normal.

Perhaps you maybe right on that, that my modem may be going down south.
I might have to make a call to them to bring me an extra modem just incase that mine have to be replaced & that I don't have to go down there myself.

BTW- I thought Modem(s) were suppose to last a long time?
What is their life span any way???
Why do they last only a short period of time,
as oppose to a long time??

When my modem was flaking out last week, it turned out to be the network. My cable modem lost connection for a couple hours one night. I called Oceanic and they said that there was no outage going on. Then my connection came back. Not much later, it went down again. I called Oceanic again. The lady said others had called from my area saying they lost their connection too, but the lady said there was no scheduled outage. When she said others lost connection too, I was sure Oceanic techs were probably messing with the network and that eventually things would return to normal, and it did.

But if you're connection always comes back after you let the modem cool down, then it sounds like you need a new modem. You're right, these cable modems don't have a short life span and are supposed to last as long as any other computer component. I've had mine for 3 yrs now. My brother's cable modem is so old it's a big flat cigar box looking thing, totally unlike the sleek Toshiba towers they have now.

When I called Oceanic, I was given the option to unplug my modem, take it back to Oceanic and get a new one. They have a place at Ala Moana Sears. You might want to try that. Don't forget to bring the power cable.

Good questions. I really don't know the answers to your questions
frankly. But I figure the short life span has something to do with the heat
emitted from the modem.

Thanks so very much for replying back.
I am hopping that when the oceanic guys comes over to look at my modem,
that they will have to replace it with a much better one,
that perhaps will have a longer life span. Wish me luck. (for Feb. 4)

To ALL.....

I just wanted to say thank you very much for replying back, & helping me out wih good information(s). The Road Runner guy, came by to fix my modem. I really didn't need a replacement. It was just some sort of wiring problem outside of the modem unit, & the problem was also the wiring outside of the apt. He recommended that I just keep this one, since after all, it is working just fine. It wasn't the cause of the heat, which is absolutely normal.
