  • Rise of the tablets part 2

The use of tablets is certainly a fact.

Now there are the Amazon device, the google nexus and as always the ubiquitous apple
    offerings.

These devices all share some common sources of components.

Apple is in court against Samsung, who are making large amounts of parts for Apple.

In a sense ,Apple is litigating against itself.

Amazon just introduced new versions of their Kindle Fire and also a new Kindle e-reader "Paperwhite", which has a lit screen. The e-reader looks very interesting and is getting good reviews.

LOVE my galaxy tab 7, it's my universal remote for all things samsung in the house(TV, Sound system, media server), the performance is great and it's nice to have when I don't feel like carrying a laptop around, but am away from a desktop.

The intense competition between the manufacturers will likely cause prices
to fall . The low hanging fruit can then picked on a budget.

Another consequence is exposure to unix type operating systems via the android devices.

Of course that takes in the world of smartphones, nowadays.
Nice to see you posting TATT !

          Mahalo, Lensperson!

i have been able to stay abreast of the online goings ons, all thanks to my tablet, but the keyboard can be iffy when wanting to type a lengthy reply, so best reserved for actual desktop time.

Though, anyone with a tablet, the Swift Key keyboard has been AWESOME! I love it's predictive text, it' split keyboard, and it allows me to use thumbs on each side(holding landscape)and works pretty swimmingly.

I think comparing e-readers to tablets is a bit much, though I know that the kindle Fire has a lot more capabilities than say, a Nook. My mom loves her Fire, but for me, it just didn't fit the niche I was trying to fill.

Could an Android user even tell that he was using a Linux system?

The average user would not notice the operating system because there is a layer
of java between the visual display and underpinning kernel.

Below the surface is a custom linux os.

Examination of the software ,hardware and firmware is easy because all that stuff
is packed into a lot of smartphones.

Which one can buy and take apart to ones hearts content.

Sometimes the best way to understand a mechanism is take it apart,

clean up the parts and put it all back together again.
