  • Google Base, Anyone?

    here's an article about it:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...111602205.html

The Mountain View, Calif., company's new, free Google Base site -- launched yesterday with minimal fanfare, like most of its initiatives-- is just a big, Web-connected database. Unless, that is, it also turns out to cause the extinction of classified and help-wanted ads, eBay, Match.com and a great many other online and offline properties, up to and including the newspaper you're reading....

to actually check it out, go here:

525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear. 525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year?

    Re: Google Base, Anyone?

I just had to try this out. So I registered and submitted my friend's sport fishing business. Within minutes it showed up in their search registry. No waiting weeks, if not months for bots to crawl your web pages.

    Go here
    http://base.google.com/base/default

In the SEARCH BASE field, type in SPORT FISHING

Shack Attack Sport Fishing Charters comes up #1 (for now). Fantastic!

As they say, you can tag "attributes" (keywords) that help you improve ranking.

The information resides on GOOGLE's server, so search attempts don't have to "crawl" the web in order to come up. It ranks based on relevance of description and attributes amongst the registered listings in Google Base.

True it doesn't seem even Google knows exactly where to go with this yet. It seems like an idea spawned out of the free services and server space offered by Yahoo, along with a bit of the commerce strategies offered by eBay.

Next I'll try uploading independent data (not from another website) and see how they host it, and how it ranks.

Oh neat! I just published a short description of the business services I offer, with a link to my resumé. I'm always looking for new clients, so if this even gets a nibble I've spent my five minutes of publishing time well.
