Well, everything seems to be working now after I had a talk with my friend on seeing how to migrate from DSL to cable. But if the line does go down, then I'll try the program, then make new cables.

EDIT: Within the time I last posted, I went down a few times. So, I employed PING and tried to find a program to do it automatically, but I remembered I can set it to go on forever (who needs seperate programs). The result? no downtime for the last five minutes! Looks like I have to keep the connection alive, because according to a meter, if my downloads go under 5kb/s, then the connection will just stop working.

Is the disconnects happening with the new router too ?

I'M SO GETTING FED UP WITH THIS!

It just happened again! I had to waste 15 minutes trying to get online after my friend reported that his connection wasn't working for a while (it was working while I was out). Listening to streaming radio doesn't work, so I'm assuming that its the connection going into the house. Hawaiian Telcom, you better have people staffed tomorrow or else all hell will break loose (aka I'll be switching to RR).

To elaborate further on what happened, my D-Link DI-604 repeatedly would disconnect. I even tried pinging the box and it would time out. I got fed
up and bought a Linksys BEFRS41 router at Wal-Mart.It solved the problem.

When did you buy your router ?

I have the Linksys BEFSR41v4 with firmware 1.04.02, and if I remember correctly, I used the BEFSR41v3 with a much older firmware. Also, based on google searches, its fairly new (one post was made last christmas) so hopefully it'll last us another four years (damn, you get cut off of something that you have that long and you feel like you've died.)

Yep, and plus I could go online if hooked up my laptop directly to the modem, so what puzzled me more was that a new router couldn't get online, nor had problems being connected to.

Anyway, everything's okay now. I even borrowed choke books for the weekend if I didn't succeed.

I just came home and inadvertently went online to email someone who called me on TheBus and I got online! I don't know if the router needed some time to sync itself or what, but atleast that's one less pressure off my back.
