  • Ready for Quad-core processors?

There is a fascinating element to this combination of multiple processing cores, a fast architecture and even more performance: The new Core 2 Quadro processors are out to beat the pants off everyone else in the x86 field and to extend Intel's lead over the competition. Check out the summit of the processor elite as we compare the upcoming Core 2 Quadro CPUs with Core 2 Duo/Extreme, Pentium Extreme Edition and the AMD Athlon 64 FX.

I might as well make this a poll too. Question: Does your computer have a dual core processor?

Why do they always come up with better right AFTER I buy a new comp I am excited about! Just drains my excitement every single time!

I agree! I couldn't afford the extra $$$ for the dual core much as I wanted it - could just barely afford what I got which is Pentium 4, 2.8 Gz. I guess I can live with only doing one thing at a time and since I'm not a "gamer", it doesn't make that much difference to me.

Theres this thing referred to as "Moore's Law" which basically states that processing speeds doubles every 8 months. In the past its been correct but I beleive its slowly becoming inaccurate. Theres a similar rule of thumb for hard drives but if I recall correctly, that law went out the window a long time ago as they figured out how to pack more into the same amount of space. I guess all that internets porn and pirated movies had to go somewhere...
Theres some exciting new things coming around the bend, if you are curious, google holographic memory, cell processors, and this one I just saw: light emitting textiles

I <3 my Intel iMac with dual-core. Have an old dual-proc Celery 500MHz from back in the day too. Great machines.

If anyone has a Socket939 processor from AMD, then you can use dual core processors (which is ironic, because if anyone knows the socket type of their processor, then they'll know that bit of info anyway).

And so far, there's not much multi-core optimized programs out there, maybe a few games or Photoshop, but that's about it. I'm just worried that the program coders and processor manufactuers aren't on the same page.

My (work-issued) dual-core MacBook Pro kicks buttocks. This machine is sweeter than all those sticky valentines, and I don't know if you're loving some body; I only know it isn't mine.
