  • 4x 8x DVD discs being passed off as 16-18x

According to a DigiTimes reporter quoting "industry sources"; media that are in reality, 8x and 4x DVD+R/-R discs, are now being passed off as 16x and 8x respectively and the problem seems to be on the increase.

that doesn't help the fact that most X times media are very finicky anyway.

for instance in my drive it will read a fuji maximum burn of 4x when the label says 8x, but in another drive it will read a 8x burn speed...

i've learned to stick with Verbatim for my use. they always burn at the max my drive is rated with the media

The best thing to do is to check with your drive manufacturer and see what brands they recommend. In a ideal world, all media would worth with all drives, but that's just not the case. Buy the recommended bands and all will go smoothly. My DVD burner is a Memorex. Three guesses what brand it recommended. (BTW, it's in internal Memorex stuffed into a Mad Dog case. Works fine and a lot cheaper then a external Memorex.)

The Plextor at work recommended a few different ones but I've had trouble finding them (and having confidence that I've found exactly the right one. The one exception is Verbatim Datalife Plus. So far I've only found them in Fisher. Interesting that they claim a much longer life then other brands, or even the Datalife one carried elsewhere.
