  • MS Internet Explorer

I have a strange problem I can't seem to fix. I use Firefox for my regular browser, but occasionally I need to use IE. Unfortunately, it appears to want to default to my dialup connection, which isn't hooked up. Thus I just get a "Connecting" message in IE's status bar, and it hangs.

How can I configure it to use the DSL connection, bearing in mind that I can't even open the program?

    Any ideas?

    Re: MS Internet Explorer

I am assuming you are using Microsoft Windows. The problem you are describing is that Internet Explorer is trying to open a home page that has been set before and because your Internet Explorer is set for dialup connections it attempts to dialup the connection to load the home page.

There are more than one way to deal with this.

One way is after Internet Explorer starts just click on the stop button and then go into "Tools" and then "Internet Options..." to modify the Connection settings.

A second way is right click on the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop and then choose "Properties". You can modify the settings in the Connections tab.

A third way is to go to Control Panel and Internet Options. Many ways to get to the same place.

Ah. OK, I'll try those ideas and see whether that solves it. Whatever happens can't be worse than today's dental appointment.
