  • Ed Case: Governor or Congress 2010? (or dogcatcher)

    Dear Friend:
    In my last
e-newsletter, I asked for your input on my decision whether to seek election as Hawai`i's Governor or U.S. Congressman in 2010. I'm deeply grateful for your tremendous response, not only through the survey and email replies but in many great conversations wherever I've been. Mahalo!
Here are the survey results so far. Around 40% favored Governor and 40% Congress, 5% said either, 5% favored another office (mostly U.S. Senate or Honolulu Mayor), 5% were undecided, and 5% said none of the above. (The latter suggested some alternatives, ranging from "dogcatcher" (do we actually elect dogcatchers anywhere?), to "the beach" (not a bad idea), to "take care of your wife" (Audrey swears that wasn't her response).)

Maybe Ed can seek a position at the guard shack at Haiku Plantations - keep out the riffraff that sneaks in to mess around with the doctors' spouses when the M.D.s are at work trying to keep us healthy.

I am a Ed Case Supporter. I love the man and what he stands for, believes in and whatever else he says. Period.

I have been a supporter of him from a long time time ago.

      And so what.

He has what it takes and says what need to be said. He doesn't BS and tell the TRUTH. Maybe das why it hurts. The truth needs to be known. Wake up people. Politicians are plentiful. Truthful ones comes once in awhile. Ed is one who will fight for the right of the people. He is a great man. A man can be trusted. A MAN for the PEOPLE.

      Love and ALOHA,

So - is this Ed Case posting his own announcement, or John K. Smith doing so on Ed Case's behalf? If the latter, may I ask Mr. Smith to explain what, if any, role he has in Mr. Case's campaign? Full disclosure in politics goes a long way.

If Mr. Smith is just an enthusiastic supporter, it would be nice if he made that clear, rather than posting a message that looks as if he is the one considering a run for those offices. The nature of the post is suspicious, and it's bad form (at the very least) to portray yourself here as someone other than who you really are.

Speaking from experience, I can tell you that, in Hawaii, any kind of brutal truthful message is met with a response of "Kill the Messenger."

For instance, if ONE child graduates from a public high school in Hawaii, and goes to an Ivy League school on an academic scholarship, then why is your kid such a dumba$$?

If we, in Hawaii, are so tired of political corruption, why do we continue to vote for one party politics?

Voters in Hawaii are simply not interested in brutal truths.
