  • Growing Veggies

Do any of you grow your own food? I'm trying it for the first time ever. I planted 12 little Chinese Eggplant seeds indoors, and 6 sprouted. I'm keeping them inside since it can get chilly here in moody Texas. four of the sprouts are two inches tall, but a bag fell on the tray of little plants and broke one of them...
I tried to stand him up with a toothpick but I'm pretty sure death is inevitable now... but maybe i'm wrong?

Anyhow, what do you like to grow?

I'm growing tomatoes in a large pot but that's not working out all that great. Got some nice ones so far but the plant needs a lot more room than a 24" pot.

One of the plants that I thinned out and tossed into a garden actually continued to grow. I'm leaving it alone until the tomatoes come out.

A dozen radishes rotted before they got close to a decent size. And there's a bunch of herbs growing. Basil proved to be easy. In fact, I can probably make a hedge out of those things.

Google 'ruth stout'. Buy the book 'how to have a green thumb without an aching back'.

I'm worried about that too... I have a small pot that I suppose I could plant one of these seedlings in but I feel like it'd just limit it later.. and I don't want to transplant twice!

This Ruth stout stuff is really interesting , Susie.. thanks! I'm hoping it could work on my 'dust' in the front 'garden.'

Sunset books has a 'gardening in containers' book.

Don't lose heart...if something doesn't work one year, it might do the next. Radishes can be tricky, and should be planted according to the moon cycles so that they'll grow to their best advantage....or try another variety.

When something fails, it's easy to get discouraged, but when something works, you go over the moon. Have fun.
