    AAAARRR!
We sailed from out of the North port this dawn towards town, eventually setting anchor first at the venerable Down To Earth, finding a small but interesting/eclectic amount of spices and powders that will have me making a return journey asap.
I was hoping they would be where I'd discover the elusive whole Allspice berry, but alas, they were finally to be found in the Hell's hole of Safeway, where this establishments designated 'spice person' informed me moments before they did not carry them. Nice... I made sure the lass knew of her error and that she was fortunate not be a member of my crew, lest she be currently at the end of a plank, eyeing hungry shark.

Sadly, we had to set course for home before the other stores in the lands of Mo'ili'ili were open for my business.

At least now, I can stoke the cauldren's fire and produce a nice corned beef for the evening's feast, of which the Allspice berry is required.

Further reports as they come ashore in a bottle.

I'd love more details on your spice travels...do tell what you encountered as you checked out various places? You're like a modern-day trader looking for a shorter way to the spice routes of olden times!

My first picks would be the three health food stores already mentioned. Selection and price is good. You don't have to buy a whole bottle of something that is expensive or rarely used.

The challenge is USING all of it before it gets too dated and effective in flavor.

If you're a steak lover, you gotta' try the McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning. Costco has if for less than $5 for the huge bottle. No need nothing else. Just shake that on some big fat juicy rib eyes, then throw the buggahz on da' hibachi. Kiawe wood helps too. Whinnahz!
yep! i buy the basic spices at sam's club. pepper, garlic salt, minced garlic, spaghetti spices, peppercorns, etc...whoa! dat steak sounds someting good!

If you ever go to Kokua Market please say hi to my friend Francis Dote who works there and is the director for The Early School nearby. Yep even elite preschool directors need second jobs too!

spices can be very expensive. One place that I found that has your standard fare of spices sold in sets and for a rather cheap price is Ross.

I was surprised at this find while shopping one day there while looking for cafe or bistro themed paintings for my kitchen. Actually Ross is an excellent place to get quality things cheap to outfit your home, especially kitchens.

Celestial Natural Foods in Haleiwa has herbs and spices advertised, but I haven't gone in yet.
