  • Restaurant Signatures

In light of Scrivener's super-fun Rock & Roll Signatures thread, let's discuss those distinguishing and unique menu items, uniforms, signs, architectural design or other notable points of interest that immediately define a particular restaurant.

There's McDonald's Big Mac, Ronald McDonald and the golden arches.

The most definining menu items at Zippy's has to be the Zip Pac and the Chili...

    Zip Pac
Teriyaki Beef, Spam, Mahimahi & Fried Chicken on Rice with Furikake and Daikon
    $7.40 (ouch!)

Zippy's Chili (vegetarian shown, from take-out counter)
    $3.30

Burger King - Current one sucks with that King dude...they go thru so many... however, their mainstay has always been the Whopper.

Then there's the famous Chow Fun Noodles at St. Louis Delicatessen (Okazuya) next door.

Jolly Roger's was the home to the Slush and the Slush Float. I think Kenny Kaneshiro had the rights to that name.

                              Re: Restaurant Signatures: Okazuya

Whoah Auntie, da' Spare Rib Soup looks ono! Looks like watercress and tofu in there. Yum. I've been to Uptown Fountain (School st., near Liliha) only once. Waited long for my Ahi Plate (special of the day), but it was worth the wait.

RIP to Yuki's Coffee House (Okazuya), which was also on School st. I would say their signature item was the Stuffed Shrimp. Wish I had the recipe for that one.

Each Okazuya certainly has one or two signature items that stand out from the others. As mentioned previously, St. Louis Delicatessen is has the PERFECT Okazuya style Chow Fun. I also think they have the best triangle Musubi. Just right.

I don't know if this is their signature dish, but a standout at Nuuanu Okazuya is the Kabocha (simmered pumpkin) and the Stuffed Kamaboko (my favorite being the hot dog). Ono Konbu Maki too.
