You will find both used. I've seen medevac more often, in recent years.

      Indeed. MEDical EVACuation.
      For sure.
Because MEDIVAC would be MEDIcal VACation.

        Or a medical vacuum.

So I guess it should be Medevac because it is a medical evacuation. But then wouldn't all forms of transportation apply such as a typical ambulance evacuating a victim from a crash scene? Why is it limited to helicopter runs...

Which brings me to this next mindless blabber: Is it Helicopter or Helecopter

Hele as in going someplace in a copter or

Heli as in what the hell does that mean?

            LOL diggin this thread.

Craig, both are accurately and professionally used. Just google to see both come up. I just did, and yet google asked me, when I put just medivac in, did I mean Medevac, so that indicates probablility that google finds more "mede" than "medi." Tracking with me, thar? LOL~

Sound The Alarms! try using all four words in a sentence?!

a med(ical) evac(uation) is now in progress. for those of you who need alternate transportation, a heli(copter) will be sent so that you can hele(copter) it over to the nearest medi(cal) vac(ation) spa/resort.

              i don't know, i tried.

Just to be boringly pedantic: "heli" comes from the Greek name for the god of the sun, Helios. The Roman equivalent is Sol, from which we get the word "solar."

Hey I'm worshipping the sun god.

But the word Medevac doesn't elude to the use of a helicopter at all?

It really should be Medical Air Lift Practice or MALPractice

Either can be used correctly. Just a variation on the theme. I've seen the "medevac" spelling used more often lately, too.
