  • Snakes in Hawai`i Nei

I was informed by a friend that Vietnamese immigrants in Waipahu have brought cobras to Hawai`i. Not that I believe it, it's more like an urban myth, I think (I hope!).

I definitely do know that there are colonies of snakes on the Windward side. I have personally seen (harmless, coqui-eating) garter snakes in Kahalu`u, as well as fewer (harmless, insect & worm-eating) ring-necked snakes. I'm too old and too slow to catch them and turn them in. Plus a (harmless) corn snake was found on Kahekili a few years ago.

I hope the cobra rumors is untrue!
