  • Porn Images And Movies Found In HPD Computers

    Source

Honolulu (AP) - A civilian computer analyst who allegedly kept about 60,000 pornographic images stored on Honolulu Police Department computers has been named in an indictment.
LOL. I wonder if anyone noticed those files before.
How'd I get so white and nerdy?

For the record, the pornography in question was adult pornography. What tripped up the guy in question, it was a unauthorized use of a government
computer, which is a felony punishable up to 5 years in prison.

Re: Porn Images And Movies Found In HPD Computers

When I was in the military I put up a poster of a topless female surfer on a big wave with the caption: Surf Naked, in my dorm room.

I was told to remove the poster as it violated the UCMJ's restriction of pornographic material. Well I looked up the definition of pornographic and basically at the time Websters Dictionary defined it as the showing of reproductive genetalia. Breasts weren't considered reproductive genetals and upon arguing my point to the IG (Inspector General or military version of an Attorney General), I won my case and was allowed to keep my poster up.

By the way this poster had a white trim around it's edges qualifying it as "framed" so it passed that stipulation as well.

So if this person has stuff that is limited to breasts, he may have grounds for a lawsuit if he was fired for "pornographic images".

A few decades ago a person was arrested, charged and tried in court for using a firearm in a robbery (armed robbery is considered a felony offense). He was using a Pellet gun but was charged with using a firearm.

The case was thrown out because a pellet gun wasn't considered a firearm under Hawaii's gun laws and the charge didn't stick because of wording.

Re: Porn Images And Movies Found In HPD Computers

60,000 images and 3000 movies? Wow...wouldn't all those files comprimise the speed of the computers involved?

Maybe that's a dumb question, seeing that the HPD probably have systems in place that far exceed the capabilities of my little laptop. I just know that I hate the thought of keeping even one jpeg image file on my hard drive, or any other image file that get downloaded into my temp file while browsing the internet. I'm constantly checking to keep it clean, to the best of my abilities anyway.

That's a whole lot of non-essential files, to me anyway, to keep on any system. I wonder how long, at the expense of Honolulu's taxpayers, did it take this guy to download all the images and movies?

Ian Lind makes a very good point. This was almost certainly against office computer use policies; most employers don't want you using work computers for personal purposes. But it's a little much to call it a crime. Reprimand the guy, fine the guy, fire the guy, OK, but for god's sake don't throw him in jail for regular porn that would be legal in his own home.

Throw him in the Slammer! Legal in his home, perhaps, he was at work and the amount whether if 1-63,000 is not the question at hand. He used Government Property to get his jolleys off!

Re: Porn Images And Movies Found In HPD Computers

My question is this: Is Rapozo being indicted because it's porn or is he be indicted because he wasn't doing what the HPD thought they were paying him (with Honolulu's taxpayers money) do to?

From the KHNL snippet, and what I've seen briefly about this issue on KITV, it appears Rapozo was supposed to be doing his job as computer analyst scanning documents into the HPD main frame. Evidently, based on the amount of porn he was downloading, he was not. Ipso facto, I'd say he was cheating the HPD out of what they thought they were paying him to do. He is, in a sense, stole from Honolulu's public, by not providing the service the HPD hired him to fulfill. And as such, he deserves to be indicted.

But what would the reaction be if the HPD found 60,000 images of baby kittens or scenic pictures of Hawai'i saved? And 3000 movies of old classic TV comedies? Would the HPD just have said: "Hey..that's OK...at least it wasn't porn." I would hope not.

Whatever he was downloading, on equipment belonging to the HPD, at taxpayers' expense, be it baby kittens or porn, I see it primarily an issue of where he was cheating the city of Honolulu and the HPD out of money by not doing the job he was contracted for. It appears though that the fact that it was porn that was found, is the major issue here, and not the bilking of Honolulu's taxpayers.

Aloha and Good morning SurfingFarmboy! Yes, It is Porn and it wouldn't get the major publicity it has if it wasn't. However, what it boils down to...is Mr. Rapozo used Govt. Property knowingly for his "own" use costing "taxpayers." Kitty Kats? I don't think so. He is naughty and he got caught.

63,000 worth of collection is "NO" ordinary guy's fantasy stuff. That's a major "blow!"

I'd say Mr. Rapozo is clearly in need of a couple of "whack whacks" administered none other than Auntie Pupule!

I hope you are feeling better, Auntie! I read of your bout with pneumonia and here's hoping that malady is on the downward slide for you.

What fascinates me about this story is not only the obvious obsessive compulsive nature of Rapozo's behavior, but the fact that it was so obvious that it creeped out his coworkers to the point that they had to turn him in. 4 computers? 60K images? 3K movies? That's "Rain Man" stuff. Didn't a UH prof just get a slap on the wrist for possessing kiddie porn because he's "obsessive compulsive?"

I don't judge Rapozo for possessing a vast collection of pornography. Some people I've met in rock and roll would, I'm sure, make Rapozo's stash at work look miniscule. Fire him, sure. Jail time? I don't think that punishment fits the crime. If we imprisoned people for surfing the internet on company time, it would dessimate the American workforce.
