Keep in mind that back then it was quite common for banks to issue their own currency. It wasn't until 1864-1866 that the federal dollar was the only currency in circulation.

the act of opening your mouth (1) relaxes your face (2) helps your eyes stay steadily open, both of which makes it less likely for you to put mascara on without poking your eye out as well as help ensure that you apply it evenly on your lashes.
