We named our dog Koa due to her coloring. Unfortunately, the brave part didn't stick and she's a little chicken dog.

I've found that the word "Koa" means "Warrior" or "Brave." And there's also the tree Koa. Hawaiians use Koa wood to build canoes. Can someone tell me the link between the tree and the word Koa? Why did the Hawaiians call the tree Koa?
