I always win money thanks to the marked cards. Marked cards are cards that are marked with invisible ink. We all cannot see any marks on the back of playing cards. We need to use our marked contact lens cards to read his luminous ink tags. In addition, invisible ink sunglasses are one of the good poker tools for detecting luminous ink marks on the back of contact lenses marked with cards.

My wife is the luckiest person I know when it comes to slot machines. I can't even remember how many times she's won big jackpots. $5K here, $4K there, etc. Totalled up over her lifetime, she's way ahead on slots, dollar-wise.

Me? My job is to make sure the casino has the funds to pay her.

I am generally not "lucky" in door prize drawings and the like. I usually only win when there are more door prizes than participants - "guaranteed" winner.

I got lucky a year ago at my high school centennial and won a huge gift basket of BIG ISLAND CANDIES goodies. It would have been unwieldy to bring back on the plane ....... so, I donated it as a door prize for my class reunion festivities the following evening.

Most of the time, I "win" prizes based on answering trivia questions. Earlier this year, a portable DVD player at the '70s Nightclub Reunion for identifying the "Sweathogs" from WELCOME BACK KOTTER. Ten years ago, $1K on a 107.9FM mystery songs contest in addition to some other "minor" prizes. Also, a Teresa Bright CD and a Chai's Island Bistro certificate from other radio station promos.

OTOH, I've sponsored prizes at class reunions and the like. I once hosted a weekly radio program back in the 1990s ("paid" info-mercial type program). I had received a $300 Long's gift certificate from a client which I converted into thirty $10.00 certificates. I ran "mystery tunes" contests two or three times per show. The allure of winning a prize is amazing - the phone banks would light up at the mention of a contest.

I like that quote...think I'll borrow it!

Here's my short list:

-3rd grade I won 5 45's and conert tickets to Chaka Kahn -- needless to say my mother did not let me attend the concert.

-Throughout high school I won various items like t-shirts, hat, small kine money, frisbees, etc from various radio sations.

-I won all-expense paid trips to Canada and to Korea/China from my job at Video Vision in the 80's.

-I won $3000.00 from and on-line poker tournament (3rd place). I've also won a bunch of smaller poker tournaments online and in Las Vegas.

-I won a free make-over from a TV network.

I really need to start entering Publisher's Clearinghouse more often!

One time I was on my way home from windsurfing lessons in Corpus Christi, TX and decided to make a quick stop at the botanical gardens fundraising fiesta. I felt bad because there was hardly anyone there. They were having a raffle and since I only had a couple of dollars on me, I wrote a $20 check to buy 20 raffle tickets. I wasn't even sure what they were raffling but I felt sorry for them having such a poor turnout. I never told my hubby that I had stopped at the festival or entered the raffle. The next day, he got a phone call at home and they wanted to let me know that I had won an all expense paid vacation to Cancun, Mexico. Of course, my hubby thought it was a solicitor and said, "Yea, right...what's the catch?". Once he realized that it was for real, he was thrilled! We had a GREAT time on that much needed vacation.
Whenever there is a contest, hubby always makes me enter because he says that I'm the one with the luck. I've won a weekend getaway to Schlitterbaum Water Park in Texas including 2 nights lodgigin, a Tahitian pearl necklace, $200 in American Express Gift Certificates (shared that with my friend, Kalona, because she had paid for my ticket to the event), concert tickets to the Soul Jam at the Blaisdell (brought Kalona to that one too), CDs and other goodies at a Hula Hoop contest, concert tickets to some Country Western artists gigs that I can't remember now, and numerous door prizes.
My motto is...."Someone's gotta win, so it might as well be me!"

I just remembered while typing on another thread that I won thirty dollars on ten that I set aside to play on slot machines at the Vegas airport. Had never played them before and haven't since, and probably never will, again.

On two different trips to Vegas I managed to win a royal flush on a poker machine.

Subtracting what I LOST on those poker machines, well...! :-)

And then there was the time when a woman sitting near me won twice. On the same machine in about 15 minutes! And that same trip someone else sitting next to me got a royal flush.

Outside of the usual door prizes, the one I remember was being the right caller to win a Shnazz album. Good trick considering I was calling from the East-West Center - the last outpost of rotary dial phones at that time.

Pretty happy about that since I was considering buying the album anyway.

PS, the creative writing contest! Dang, I forgot about getting published in the high school scholastic publications, poetry once and a short essay another. They gave us a copy as an actual prize.
