From everybody's favorite resource, the ever-trustworthy Wikipedia:
"According to the World Health Organization, a pandemic can start when three conditions have been met:
      * the emergence of a disease new to the population
      * the agent infects humans, causing serious illness
      * the agent spreads easily and sustainably among humans
A disease or condition is not a pandemic merely because it is widespread or kills a large number of people; it must also be infectious."

      I don't believe H5N1 fits WHO's third qualifier...yet.

Do you realize what would happen, if the WHO admitted that the pandemic level had gone up? They have already changed their wording, in order to avoid just this. I firmly believe that there will be no level changes, until we find ourselves in full-blown pandemic.

Sure. Pete Townsend would create yet another fantastic WHO album.

Couldn't resist. My bad. Carry on.

Here's some local BF 'trivia', for you non-believers...

These people are trying to figure out how to keep sick tourists from leaving their hotels, and wondering if hotel housekepers can be trained to spot BF victims. They're also dealing with what'll happen to people who try to leave their homes in violation of the quarantine laws.

There are suspicions, in Indonesia, that the virus has mutated slightly. And that there are TWO variations going around...one for birds, and one for mammals.

This is really cyptic. So these Indonesian teenagers and the baby goose were their in the same area in Canada? Are they cases as in they came down with the H5N1 flu or did they die from it?

The goose died...Prince Edward Island, it was part of a backyard flock of 30. For the goose, It is H5N, but the 1 has yet to be confirmed.

The Indonesian boys were in Indonesia. One confirmed, still alive, one confirmed, died.

I'll be right over, Helen, I cannot figure this bringing URL stuff out.
