          OMG!!. I haven't rented & haven't seen a filipino/tagalog movies in such a looong time.

The last time I rented a filipino/tagalog movie was a couple of years ago.

I like to watch them, but lately, I just don't have time to watch a long movie.

I think the place my hubby & I rented a tagalog video was from Tommy's Video (if you live in honolulu, Tommy's Video place Ph.# is: 848-1620).

I forgot the title of it, but it sure was pretty funny!.

I think it was about this lady with a lot of children, & tries to get a job to support her kids. One time, she tried to sell tapes on the road side, & I think she almost got arrested.

Well, Any way, it was pretty funny!.

Try asking Tommy's Video if they have filipino movies. I kind of forgot, & I tried to call that # recently, & no one seem to be answering, I'm not sure if that business is still running.

I hope thay are still there.

          Good Luck.

          Aloha.

The only one I've seen was called "Olongopo" <sp>. I think it was realeased in the PI as "The American Dream". It was half tagolog and half english with some english subtitles. I was only exposed to this movie by the fact that my cousin was involved in the production and his then girlfriend was one of the actors.
Not a bad flick, worth your while if you come upon it.

Ah, you're talking about "Tanging Ina," I believe.

I just rented like 5 this past weekend. All mushy, romantic stuff with Judy-Ann Santos and Claudine Baretto. Anyone wanna borrow? PI DVDs are not copy protected.

I was only kidding. It's just that I hear so much Ilocano at work.

Funny, I heard a lot more Tagalog in NY.

Re: Anyone besides me into Tagalog movies?

                      I'm more into tagalog, myself.

Since I haven't spoken it, & haven't been around people who spoke tagalog, lately, I tend to speak it in tagalish .

(though, I can understand some tagalog, I just don't let anyone know about it, so I can ears drop without them knowing. )

Maybe eventually I'll find a class, & re learn it all over again.

                      Aloha.

                        Haha...oh, ok
Yeah, The East Coast has more Tagalog speakers. Tagalog's the lingua franca of Philly (not Philadelphia )--especially Manila. ManileƱos are generally more metropolitan (and sometimes more educated) than Ilokanos, so they tend to immigrate to world business districts and cities with large universities in the US. Ilokanos and Visayans have are relatively new to this immigration pattern, and are more likely to be on West Coast and Hawaii, because of plantations, shipping, fisheries, and canneries.

That was many years ago Mike. Today, is quite different. There are many Educated Ilocanos and Visayans! Gosh! I can name alot. Especially their offsprings.

I know, Auntie. I'm referring to the immigration/settling pattern.

There's still a substantial disparity in educational levels between these 3 groups in Philly.
