    Re: Love Songs You Love

At this time of year the only track that comes to mind is "Love Stinks" by the J. Geils Band.
    I'm still here. Are you?

Wow. Some great additions since the last update. Although Valentine's Day has passed, the time is always right for love, so if you need a sweet soundtrack while you browse the 'Threads, I present to you the new and improved "VD@HT" station! If I missed one of your tracks and it's available on the Finetune system, let me know.

I so agree...loved the late Minnie Riperton. A trivia question! Minnie's daughter is well known and appears on a weekly tv show. Name the daughter and name the show!

Maya Rudolph of "Saturday Night Live." Listen to the part of "Lovin' You" where Minnie sings "Maya, Maya..." - it's for her daughter.

I had to reference the iTunes store according to your line up here......

Rupert Holmes did "Key Largo" ? Well wasn't that done by Bertie Higgins?
And Michael Franks recorded "The Pina Colada Song" aka Escape (The Pina Colada Song) " which goes something like If ya like Pinnnnnna Colaaaaaada getting caught in the rain the yiddi yiddi yada...something about red tape etc?
Well that was definately Rupert Holmes.

"Careless Whisper" was done by Wham featuring George Michael, released 1984 on Columbia Records.

"Precious & Few" was recorded and originally released by Sonny Geraci and Climax. The song was a hit in Hawaii during the summer of 1971 before it broke nationally in early 1972. I wonder if The Association ever recorded this track.

While Rupert Holmes is well known for recording the romantic "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" and the lesser known, "Him", the guy gained notoriety as a songwriter in 1971. Back then he penned the hit single "Timothy" by The Buoys which has been debated over the years to be a song about cannibalism. Lesser known by Rupert is a great story song he wrote for the same group called "Give Up Your Guns".

Some spieces of insects and animals are known to devoure their lovers after mating. I think the preying mantis is an example. So are spiders.

                              It's on my iPod Shuffle

Over by the window, there's a pack of cigarettes.
                              Not my brand you understand,
                              Sometimes the girl forgets
                              She forgets to hide them
I know who left those smokes behind
                              She'll say, oh, he's just a friend,
And I'll say, oh, I'm not blind
                              to..

                              (chorus)
Him him him, what's she gonna do about him?
She's gonna have to live without him,
It's him or it's me, me me,
No one gets to get it for free
                              It's me or it's him.

Don't know what he looks like,
                              Don't know who he is.
Don't know why she thought that I
would say what's mine is his.
I dont want to own her,
But I can't let her have it both ways.
Three is one too many of us,
She leaves with me or stays
                              with..

                              (chorus)

Him him him, what's she gonna do about Him?
She's gonna have to live without him,
It's him or it's me, me me,

                              It's me or it's him.

If she wants him she can have him,
Just exactly how we once were,
Its goodbye to he and I,
and back to me and her,
                              Without..

                              (chorus)
Him, him, him, what's she gonna do about him?
She's gonna have to live without him,
It's him or it's me, me, me,
No one gets to get it for free,
Time for me to make the girl see,
                              It's me or it's him.

                              (repeat chorus)

                                Re: Love Songs You Love

"Him" was good, but "Answering Machine" was better. It got a small amount of airplay, and it always puzzled me that it wasn't at least as popular as "Him." It had the same story-song structure as "Escape" and "Him" and even had the funny little twist at the end, like "Escape."

Bertie Higgins tried to revisit "Key Largo" with "Casablanca" (I think). Too bad that didn't catch on. I liked his voice and "Key Largo" is one of my favorite karaoke songs.
