[QUOTE=LikaNui;169536]That's because you're so darned YOUNG.
(See what happens when you call me "an old fut" in a PM? [/hug] )

    S**KS to be you huh?

Guess I need toi find a monthly meeting to attend. "Hi. I'm LikaNui, and I'm a Parrothead." Wonder what the 12 steps would be.

    PauHanaParrotheads.Org

Jimmy is introduced by Don Ho... he does "Quiet Village" with Martin Denny... and he does both "Back To The Island" and yes "VOLCANO" with (drumroll) Henry Kapono!!! JB has always been great about bringing up local musicians....Martin Denny, Jake Shimabukuro (hate that he couldn't pronounce his name though!), Henry Kapono, etc.

      Re: Jimmy Buffett concert "rules"

I've seen Jimmy 3 times now.

      "I had the inclination
      and the wherewithal
      Just didn't have the time."

So didn't make it this time.

Once I got up and backstage with the band and all...
Because of a 'Parrothead' contest. My lady and I wore beautiful Haku Leis at a Southern California concert. Cool!
Life is either an adventure... or you're not doing it right!!!

Saw Jimmy in Phoenix in 1985, my favorite song he did by far has always been "Come Monday".

I wrote that on October 5... and today it's official, according to this story in today's Advertiser:
Jimmy Buffett to open restaurant in Waikiki

Expect occasional appearances by singer/author Jimmy Buffett at a new Waikiki restaurant that will bear his name and is expected to open later this year on Kalakaua Avenue in the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber.
It will be known as Jimmy Buffett's At The Beachcomber and will occupy a prominent location on Kalakaua Avenue above Macy's on the hotel's lobby level.
The deal is a partnership with Outrigger Enterprises Group and will be the first Hawai'i restaurant for the singing entrepreneur, probably best-known for the song "Margaritaville."
It's not clear whether patrons will be "nibblin' on sponge cake," but margaritas will be served. And Barbara Campbell, vice president of retail development for Outrigger, said there will be live music and food, with a Hawai'i flair that should make the restaurant different from the Margaritaville-named restaurants Buffett has in other cities.
"They are designing this restaurant for Hawai'i; it's really customized," she said. She said the deal is part of a $21 million renovation of the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber.
She said the $15 million restaurant project will take up more than 21,000 square feet in an area that fronts Kalakaua and was home to the late Don Ho in his last years, to the Blue Hawai'i showroom and to the Hibiscus Cafe restaurant.
She said Outrigger had been in discussions with the entrepreneurial singer for two years. "Jimmy absolutely loves Hawai'i and had been looking at locations for five years," she said.
Campbell said Buffett is not directly involved in restaurant management but "expect him to visit at least at twice a year."
In a written statement about the project, Buffett said:
"From the first time I rode a wave at Canoes on Waikiki I began to figure out how I could get back to Hawaii on a more regular basis to that One Particular Harbour. I have written many stories and songs inspired by my time in Hawaii and can't wait to see what the future holds in the land that is so far but yet so near."
Campbell said Buffett's other restaurants have a reputation of serving quality food and live entertainment along with the celebrity concept, something not all chain themes have achieved.
She said the restaurant will be designed with an architectural style that combines Buffett's image with the flavors of Hawai'i, with open-air lanais and the interior design of an "indoor island" setting.
She said the restaurant is slated to open in November, with construction beginning next month.
I think the name "Jimmy Buffett's At The Beachcomber" sucks, but.
I'll ask my source if they'll have a gift shop there. Biiiig moneymaker.
              Parrotheads, rejoice!
              .
              .

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

No doubt the gift shop will make it's weight in gold and dollars earned per SF.
In late November I was at Vino about 10 in the evening and Jimmy Buffet had just left apparently he likes to hang out there when he's here.

                  Anyway.
OMG! I love Jimmy Buffett (hailing from FL and all) and I'm SO bummed to have missed him here!! I am one sick parrothead!

The 1st step would be "Come Monday, I will not drink until after work!", as our parties have become unmanageable!

Well sure. After taking numerous trips to Florida, I got the feeling that it's illegal to not love Buffett in Florida! (And also in New Orleans, which may have more Parrotheads than in all of Florida! )

and I'm SO bummed to have missed him here!!
Be patient. He's here a lot! So much so that he's considering buying a home here.

But here we are, 30 years later, and his fans are still rabid and fanatically loyal. For the past couple of decades, Buffett has continued to be in the annual Top 10 (and often the Top 5) on the list of highest grossing touring bands.
                      (...)
He's also a brilliant businessman, with his financial finger in a helluva lot of different pies.
That last sentence is why I bumped this thread back into life. The new year is starting off nicely with this story in the Business section of today's Advertiser. The story includes:

"With an estimated annual income of more than $40 million, you might mistake his portfolio for that of Warren Buffett (not a relative). And he's done it by sailing beyond most musicians' ticket, T-shirt and poster revenue stream.
The title of his most popular song shows up on restaurants, clothing, booze and casinos. Among the products he's involved with are Landshark Lager, the Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chains, clothing and footwear, household items and drink blenders. The Margaritaville cafe on the Las Vegas strip is said to be the top grossing restaurant in the nation.
Buffett writes best-selling novels. There's Radio Margaritaville on Sirius. His recording career is booming even as the music industry tanks: His recent album, "License to Chill," was the first No. 1 album of his career.
In October, Buffett was ranked by Vanity Fair as No. 97 on a list of the 100 most influential people. In the world."

Read the rest of the story at the link above.

He's also a best-selling author. That Wikipedia link says ""Buffett has written 3 No. 1 best sellers. Tales from Margaritaville and Where Is Joe Merchant? both spent over seven months on the New York Times Best Seller fiction list. His book A Pirate Looks At Fifty went straight to No. 1 on the New York Times Bestseller non-fiction list, making him one of seven authors in that list's history to have reached No. 1 on both the fiction and non-fiction lists. The other six authors who have accomplished this are Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Styron, Irving Wallace, Dr. Seuss and Mitch Albom."
He released another book this year, though I haven't bought it yet. It's a children's book, I think. Any of you other Parrotheads have it?

                        Re: Jimmy Buffett concert "rules"

I walked by the location of Jimmy's Waikiki restaurant a couple of weekends ago when I was staying with my sis who was in town for the Honolulu Marathon. I'm totally looking forward to the opening of the restaurant and gift shop....when hubby's (and others) parrothead tshirts need to be replaced, I usually end up going on ebay or to the margaritaville.com websites to get him new ones....now I'll just be able to go down to Waikiki! Yeah! Lika...please keep us posted as soon as you hear of any concerts (private or public). We joined the local parrothead club a few years ago, but I haven't heard ANYTHING from them lately about parties or concerts. They finally became a sanctioned club right before his last concert. As soon as I hear anything, I'll let you know. Usually the sanctioned parrothead clubs get first dibs at tickets for concerts from what I understand. Good reason to join!
