  • Highest rent rates again!

Hawaii has most expensive rental housing in nation for the third year in a row!

    http://www.khon2.com/news/local/stor...NTqawxDUA.cspx

"According to the study, these are the average residential rent prices in Hawaii:

    One bedroom: $1,339

    Two bedroom: $1,616

    Three bedroom: $2,308

It's a steep price to pay considering the average wage for a renter is $13.65 an hour -- which works out to just over $28,000 a year. And this just points out more that people really need to work harder, they have to have more people in the family employed in order to afford the rent,"

It's home I love it, but it does kinda hurt a bit...
Life is either an adventure... or you're not doing it right!!!

MM, what would be your solution? Rent control has been tried in other locales with often disastrous results. Besides rent control is a socialistic program and contrary to the Tea Bagger agenda.

          1) Have a competent, fiscally responsible State & City government? Lowering taxes... land and otherwise. Would that help?
          2) That may be true, but it's getting to the point where the people that can afford the rents are people that won't do the 'Grunt' jobs. You know like dishwashers, security guards, housekeeping, etc. Do you agree?
          3) First off... please don't confuse my agreement with Tom Berg exposing BS in our government as being a Tea-Bagger. I am neither Democrat, Republican or fanatical. What I am is a hippie with a haircut.

Probably not. In most locales rental units are a free market system. Lowering expenses (taxes) just means that the landlord makes more profit. The marketplace in a Capitalistic society determines what a rental rate is. I am finding that out first hand right now. I own a commercial building and my tenant is not going to renew their lease. I am going to have to reduce my rent by about 20% in order to get a new tenant as a result of a poor economy. But I don't hear prospective tenants claiming that I'm going to lose income in this deal. It is what it is. If it were easy, everyone would own rental units.

That may be true, but it's getting to the point where the people that can afford the rents are people that won't do the 'Grunt' jobs. You know like dishwashers, security guards, housekeeping, etc. Do you agree?
Yes and no. When rental rates go too high and rentals start going empty, then rates will come down (see above for an example in a commercial property).

I don't mean to imply that you are a Bagger. I'm just saying that with the current mood of the electorate in the US (the Bagger agenda), any attempt at rent control will be met with opposition as a socialistic program - which by some definitions it is and not necessarily evil!

Hey, I graduated from Berkeley in the mid 60's. My credentials are impeccable! "America, Love It or Leave It." I decided to stay and make my country a better place, which will continue to my dying day.

Thanks for the video, it brings back memories.
