Re: What is your "COMFORT" food?

I always thought Manoa Gardens at UH made pretty awesome chili. It was spicier and more 'homemade' tasting than Zippy's. I remember when I was there ('85-'90) a big cup of chili and rice cost a buck...
  3. Re: If you could, how much would you spend on books?

Cool, thanks, I'll try it. I haven't had a chance to play with it too much. Looks like I've got my weekend project lined up... :)

Not to mention, you can't read an electronic book in the bathtub either! :D :D :D
  5. Re: If you could, how much would you spend on books?

My first thought when looking at this was 'how frickin' cool' but I wish it would sort your collection by LC or Dewey classification numbers rather than broad subject areas. Too technical I guess? Oh...
  6. Re: If you could, how much would you spend on books?

I spend very little on books considering (or maybe because) I am a librarian. If I can't get what I'm looking for through interlibrary loan, I order from half.com or wait until I visit my family in...

    Re: Hānaiāhuhu - Family Pets!

I am owned by a 7-year old Senegal parrot named Lani Girl. She is a true tita-sweet and sassy but no get on her mean side or she going BITE you! :p She doesn't talk much but she loves to laugh,...

Re: Big & Small Business Memories

I miss the stores which used to be at Ala Moana SC in the '70s and '80s:

    Woolworths
    India Imports
    Otaheite
    San Francisco Rag Shop
    Sera's Surf & Shore
    Tahiti Imports
    Foxmoor
    House of Music
  12. Re: Who has the best and worst chicken katsu?

Mmm, sounds ono! Although I do like the contrast in flavors between the cool, creamy mac salad and the salty/spicy katsu and sauce... Kinda like poi and Spam. :)

I've got an idea for the...
  13. Re: Who has the best and worst chicken katsu?

Worst- Loco Drive-Inn at Koko Marina. Maybe I have gone there on 'off' days but their chicken katsu always is tough, overcooked and the sauce is too watery with nomo flavah!

    Best-Used to be...

    Re: Wisdom Teeth

I still get all mines(and I'm 38). My longtime dentist(Dr. Hatanaka in HiKai) took a wait-and-see approach, told me not to have them out unless they were bothering me. One on my right upper jaw has...

    Re: yer fave comedians

John Candy - my fave comic actor of all time. He was hilarious, especially in 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles', but never too raunchy or prone to making jokes at others' expense. He had a heart, and...

    Re: Goji Juice

    Pomai,
I'm sorry I'm not in Honolulu :( so I can't recommend any particular stores - I'd imagine any large grocery or herb store in Chinatown would have them. I bought mine at a Chinese grocery in...

Re: Least Favorite National TV Ads

While on the topic of political ads, I hate all the political ads that only speak to 'families'. Hello, I am single, as is 40% of the voting-age population! I left Hawaii in 2000 so missed Lingle's...

    Re: Goji Juice

I've never tried the juice, but I ate the berries in China. They grow in some regions of Tibet and Sichuan. They were bright red, dried and tasted like raisins. I've heard they're high in...

    Re: Favorite Movie Quotes

I love 'em all, but the funniest(debatable, true) was Planes, Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin and John Candy. 'Wait a minute, THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS!!!' :D

    Re: Favorite Movie Quotes

'Input, Stephanie! More input!' - Short Circuit

'We didn't have to win, we only had to get out of town!' - A Little Romance
