Re: Target is Coming To Kona

With its traffic problems, earthquakes, vog, etc. its "Konafornia" moniker is well-earned. :p

What's wrong with Fern Forest? Just keep the gun rack of your pickup truck fully stocked and put a few Rottweilers in the back and it's all good. :p

Re: Homes with huge Lanais: Mosquitos?

There are some high-end (and not-so high-end) luxury homes with that kind of architecture in East Hawai'i as well. Just look around Reed's Island, Sunrise Ridge/Sunrise Estates, Kapoho Vacationland,...

    Re: Who bought an iPhone?

I'm not that impressed by the iPhone; however, it's not bad for a first-generation effort. For the price, it should have an anodized aluminum shell instead of a plastic one, removable batteries,...

    Re: Good furniture stores

I'd hate to think about how IKEA and "vintage Danish teak" furniture will look after a few years in a Hilo residence. Humidity, mold, mildew, corrosion, termites, and gecko poop will definitely take...

It depends on the island. There used to be a place called "Teak Bali" on Kanoelehua Ave. in Hilo that was pretty good for teak furniture. For rattan stuff, there were a couple of good places...

    Re: Plantation Hawaii Stikes Again.

Hmm, that description's a little simplistic and fails to take into account the "politics of marriage." No one held Lydia Kamaka'eha Paki at gunpoint when she married John Owen Dominis in 1862....

    Big Island Coqui Frog Origins

Coqui frogs have been in Hilo for several years. Most likely, they first showed up in the plant department at the Hilo Wal-Mart. From there, they moved to Puna and other parts of the Big Island.
