"Something bad didn't happen every time I was drunk, but I was drunk everytime something bad happened." -- from Drinking: A Love Story, by Caroline Knapp

    And a funny:

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didnt drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true, than be selfish and worry about my liver."--Jack Handey, Deep Thoughts

Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you

We profess that we know God, but by works we deny Him; for beatitude doth
not consist in the knowledge of divine things, but in a divine life, for the
devils know them better than man.

    Here's another I just found...

"To be specific, the self-sins are self-righteousness, self-pity, self-confidence, self-sufficiency, self-admiration, self-love and a host of others like them. They dwell too deep within us and are too much a part of our natures to come to our attention till the light of God is focused upon them. The grosser manifestations of these sins--egotism, exhibitionism, self-promotion--are strangely tolerated in Christian leaders, even in circles of impeccable orthodoxy. They are so much in evidence as actually, for many people, to become identified with the gospel. I trust it is not a cynical observation to say that they appear these days to be a requisite for popularity in some sections of the church visible. Promoting self under the guise of promoting Christ is currently so common as to excite little notice...."

Sometimes people carry to such perfection the mask they have assumed that in due course they actually become the person they seem.

    Stubborness we deprecate,
    Firmness we condone,
The former is our neighbors trait,
    The latter is our own.

    -John Wooden

Since I don't read Latin... I looked it up.

    "Fallaces sunt rerum species.

The outward appearances of things are deceiving.

Comment: Itís not so much the outward appearance of anything that is the problem. Itís the inner reaction we bring to the outward appearance of things that can create conflict."

    I'm suprised that no one brought this up;

The mesaage is that there are known knowns-there are things that we know that we know. There are known unknowns, that is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns, there are things we do not know we don't know. And each year we discover a few more of those unknown unknowns

Straight jacket please, probably put some SNL writers out of work for a while...

And, of course, "I didn't come here to be insulted!!!!", "Well, where do you usually go?" Poor Margaret Dumont, at the hands of Groucho Marx
