  • Tofu

when i have had too many plate lunches... i tend to want something simple and good with rice and tofu is my choice.
are there any really good homemade tofu shops around? i would appreciate it if some people who eat tofu would have a suggestion or 2 where to buy it.
i am looking for better quality than the store bought kind.

try soy to the world at manoa marketplace next to first hawaiian. they have tofu, soymilk, and other soy products, but very different than what you normally see at the grocery store.

the bulletin did a piece on them and another store: http://starbulletin.com/2006/06/14/f...s/story01.html

didn't i say in a post earlier today that i eat too much? i still think i eat too much, but hey! at least i love my soymilk and tofy and okara, too!

      Re: Tofu

Aloha Tofu factory on Akepo Ln. in Kalihi. If you take your own container, they'll fill it up with the "dregs" from that morning's run. Just odd scrap pieces of tofu that they can't sell. Trimmings and booboos. Real fresh too. SIL used to bring some over when she had the time. Call them first or drop by to see what's the scoop. It's been awhile since we've had any fresh tofu from there. If anything, you can also buy the "regular" tofu from them as well. Used to see a constant stream of cars going into the parking lot.

Oops. Nevermind if you're looking for better than "store bought" kind.

Tofu sits atop the bad food pyramid, if it's even actually food.

Cone sushi is good and the only sushi I can tollerate, nori ruins anything it touches for me.

                    Re: Tofu

I was just wondering since the "cone" of the cone sushi is tofu, and I was assuming you didn't like tofu, maybe I'm wrong.

                        Re: Tofu

It has to be said that the deep fried tofu that makes the cone sushi 'wrap' is nothing like 'original' tofu, either in texture or in flavor.
