  • 25 Greatest Action Movies

EW magazine has a list of the 25 Greatest Action movies, for once I agree(on most of their choices).

    25. THE INCREDIBLES
    24. LETHAL WEAPON
    23. DRUNKEN MASTER II
    22. PREDATOR
    21. SPIDER-MAN 2
    20. KILL BILL — VOL.1
    19. GOLDFINGER
    18. THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD
    17. THE BOURNE SUPREMACY
    16. CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON
    15. ENTER THE DRAGON
    14. ROBOCOP
    13. THE WILD BUNCH
    12. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
    11. SPEED
    10. TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY
    9. HARD-BOILED(I never saw this one or heard of it)
    8. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN(WTF?)
    7. GLADIATOR
    6. SEVEN SAMURAI
    5. THE MATRIX
    4. THE ROAD WARRIOR
    3. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK
    2. ALIENS

And the number one Action Movie is.....1. DIE HARD

This list sure beats AFI's 100 greatest last night

I would have added MI:2, Escape from New York, Total Recall, Independence Day, The Rock,First Blood and Con Air to the list.
HT what are your favorite Action Movies?

Some of your choices made it to EW's other 25 top action movies (#26 to #50).

Also the top 25 list only listed one movie from a series. For instance it's only Goldfinger from the James Bond series.

I am kind of wondering how come Starship Troopers or Star Trek II:The Wrath of Khan wasn't in the list.

I think IMO, Goldfinger was the best of the Bonds. BTW helen, I agree with you on Khan and Starship Troopers, those films kept me on the edge although the movies,

I have to agree. I love when the Rock has to deal with the monkeymen and that jeep rolling down the hill was unreal.

these lists are always bs. some arent exactly 'action movies'

hard boiled is an awesome john woo / chow yun fat chinese movie. its available everywhere.

i 2nd total recall and 5th element, not sure about con air or rundown. might as well throw in drunken master 2 in there, that ones awesome.
how about crank? that was almost 100% pure action. blackhawk down too.

In general one should always consider the source of these lists and what sort of criteria went into gathering and ranking of the list. For instance for an action movie does it make it a better movie if the master villian uses an atomic bomb (#19) instead of a robot (#25) to carry out his evil plans?

Does using firearms (#1,2,3,4,5,8,10,11,13,14,17,19,20,22,24) in a movie out trumps one that uses bows and arrows (#18, maybe 16) or swords (#3,6,7,20)?

I know what you mean ,meaning none of the "pirates" movies made the list and they were full of action.

Too bad it's not rated R like the other 3. I guess John cleaned up his act.

yes, i agree, but what i meant was that i would consider incredibles a childrens movie, crouching tiger to be a drama, etc.

If you read the EW article, it explains why the picks were made.
