Looks (and sounds) like you had a great time, Auntie Lyn! Beautiful pics, too.
Mel, as always, your photos are outstanding. The colors are phenominal.
Hey, LeiKaina! Long time no see! Beautiful, as always!
So long...and thanks for all the fish!

      Taken at the Kilauea Observatory.

Dis picture was taken at the Kilauea Lookout located across the observatory.
That's two NeNe Birds walking around.

Many Steam Holes. Can make fast Steam Kumu! heheheh

Re: HT's Photo Sharing Thread - Chapter 2

This Hawaiian Monk Seal showed up late in the evening this past Tuesday near Diamond Head beach...

Apparently he/she had just arrived, as I had passed the area it was at within about a half hour before it was there.

It laid near the shoreline, still as the rocks it was on that I didn't even notice it until walking right past near him/her. It suddenly looked up at me and I was like, "Holy!.. it's a monk seal!". So I quickly distanced myself, and lucky to have my camera (which I usually carry), snapped this photo.

It appeared really tired, but otherwise healthy, with no visible injuries except that noticeable bleach marking on the shoulder, which I think is done by NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service to ID them. This one was quite big... about 5-6 ft. in length.

So I went home and emailed NMFS the sighting.

Then yesterday I went back and he/she was still there. This time looks like DLNR had been notified and posted the usual perimeter warning signs...

Notice it says to keep pets on a leash. Gosh, that'd be a nightmare if your dog was loose and charged after it. OMG! Hope nobody has to deal with that!

I've seen Hawaiian Monk Seals along Diamond Head beach on several occasions in the past. I'm guessing this one is a "regular". I just added that 1-888-256-9840 phone number on the sign into my cel in case of future sightings. If you're at the beach often, you should too. In case one might be in danger or need medical assistance, we might be able to help by having this "911" number on hand.

Re: HT's Photo Sharing Thread - Chapter 2

Update: I just got an email reply from NOAA Marine Fisheries Service...

The seal is RH58, also known as Rocky. She is an adult female that likes to haul out at Diamond Head. Chances are if there is a seal at Diamond Head, its her. She has "N11" bleached on both shoulders and her lower back to help identify her. She's in good health and its perfectly normal for monk seals to haul out and rest along the shorelines. I get many reports of people thinking that there is something wrong with the seal. Generally they are just sleeping.

Thank you again for passing on the information and photos.

          cheers,
          Tracy Wurth

I had a feeling it was the same one that frequents this coastline.

Re: HT's Photo Sharing Thread - Chapter 2

I caught the tail-end of last night's Ho'olaulea in Waikiki. Society of Seven (the younger generation) performed at stage 3 in front of the Outrigger on the Beach from 9:30 to 10:30pm. Free show!

Here they are during their closing Beatles cover segment...

You can't tell here, but this is their "Elvis"...

As you can see by their smiles, the crowd really enjoyed the Society of Seven show!....

If you missed last night's free performance, I highly recommend you book a dinner show at the Society of Seven. Their talent is just amazing. Every band member rotates on every different instrument, including drums, keyboard, horns, guitar and bass. Just awesome. We went to their show this past March and had a blast. The food is pretty good too. The showroom is located at the Outrigger Waikiki on the beach, a floor above Dukes, near Hula Grill and Chuck's Steakhouse.

Likanui, your "Tiny" friend was right next to me watching the show, dancing with a cute wahine. I told him you said "howzit". j/k. lol

"Excuse me sir, may I borrow one of your DSLRs for this shot?"

I just have one problem here. It's a Nikon, not a Canon. lol

How could you tell? Were you looking down?
(Oh, c'mon folks. It was just a joke. I'm almost always PC. Heck, I've even resisted warning Scriv that if he eats too many more bagels, he'll start saying "Oy vay!")

I hope you used the appropriate finger.

Took this at KoOlina Resort last Monday. Short, short visit and I'm sad to be home.

Being from Bermuda, I felt a lot of parallels with Hawaii, especially when I was at Hunama Bay, BEAUTIFUL!

Tattrat, those shots are amazing! What did you shoot them with? Details please. DSLR camera body brand. Lens. Settings. All of it. Onegaishimasu (asking in favor)!

"Hunama" bay is correctly spelled and pronounced Hanauma bay - "Hah-now'mah bay". Although, extremists might say "Hana-oo'mah".

Just sad to once again see the number of Oahu's Official Bird (the construction Crane) over Waikiki.
                          But still. Nice shots.

Guy Cruz, the youngest sibling of brothers' Ernie Cruz Jr. (Ka'au Crater Boys) and John Cruz performs last night...

Mark (white shirt) on lead guitar, Sean on drums and Guy (blue shirt). All super cool guys.

Listening to Guy sing and play is like reading someone's soul. Just deep. He's like the male version of Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom. Not in range, but in intensity. Chicken skin 'kine awesome.

If you can tell us where this was at, bonus points! lol
