Can we call it a "hooptie?"

I always considered a hooptie as the POS you could care less if it was on fire, you keep it around as the spare or as the work horse.

We had a Tahitian drummer in our halau for several years - college-age guy, still living at home, nice guy, heart of gold, very talented musician. For a while, he had no vehicle of his own, so he was driving his mother's jeep-like auto - he called it "Mama's Hooptie." (With a hearty chuckle, of course.)
