    December 6, 2007

The Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) announced the Finalists for the 36th CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia, presented by Jayco, at Doltone House in Sydney this morning with Australian country superstars Lee Kernaghan, Adam Brand, Beccy Cole, Troy Cassar-Daley, Sara Storer, James Blundell, Adam Harvey and Gina Jeffreys all sharing the glory!

The legendary Lee Kernaghan, recently named Queensland’s Australian of the Year, once again managed to lead the field in the Finalists’ race, nabbing a total of six. Kernaghan is already the proud owner of a record 24 Awards picked up across his amazing 15-year music career. This time he shares four of his Finalist spots with mates Adam Brand and Steve Forde for the trio’s charitable collaboration on the hit single, Spirit Of The Bush. All profits from the release went to the drought relief organisation, Aussie Helpers. Spirit Of The Bush is a Finalist in the Single of the Year, Video Clip of the Year, Heritage Song of the Year and Vocal Collaboration of the Year categories. Kernaghan is also a Finalist in the Male Artist of the Year category, as well as sharing an APRA Song of the Year nod for Spirit Of The Bush with the song’s co-writers, Garth Porter and Colin Buchanan.

On the ladies side of the draw, Beccy Cole, Gina Jeffreys and Sara Storer share a total of four Finalist positions each. The trio literally share one of those spots with their recording of John Williamson’s Galleries Of Pink Galahs in the Vocal Collaboration of the Year category.

Beccy Cole, who last time around won the prestigious treble of APRA Song of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Single of the Year, is once again lining up for Female Artist of the Year and APRA Song of the Year for Lifeboat, as well as Album of the Year for Live @ Lizotte’s.

Gina Jeffreys is also a Finalist in the Female Artist of the Year and Album of the Year categories for her album Walks of Life, as well as Video Clip of the Year for Stepped Right In It, while her fellow Songbird and multi-Award winner, Sara Storer, is in the running for Single of the Year, Heritage Song of the Year and APRA Song of the Year for Land Cries Out.

Also nabbing four Finalist placings is ARIA Award winner Troy Cassar-Daley in the categories of Male Artist of the Year, Heritage Song of the Year (for Last Mile Home), Single of the Year and APRA Song of the Year for Everything’s Going To Be Alright, which Cassar-Daley co-wrote with Don Walker.

Not far behind, Adam Harvey – winner of eight CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia, including three Male Artist of the Year trophies – has scored 3 berths for Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (I’m Doin’ Alright) and Single of the Year (Someone Else’s Dream). Also scoring 3 Finalist placings are James Blundell who scored in the prestigious Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year categories (with album and title track Ring Around The Moon) as well as Heritage Song of the Year for Nature’s Gentleman and Compass Bros stablemate Dianna Corcoran who is a Finalist in the Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year categories (with album and title track Then There's Me) as well as a nod in the Vocal Collaboration of the Year category for Count Your Blessings with Karl Broadie.

Husband and wife duo and previous CMAA Country Music Award recipients Carter & Carter also go away with two Finalist placings in the Group or Duo of the Year and Single of the Year categories for The Best Things In Life Are Free.

Of the relative newcomers, four fresh acts each claimed two Finalists positions, including Lou Bradley (Maton New Talent of the Year and APRA Song of the Year for One Shoe), Newcastle’s Morgan Evans (Maton New Talent of the Year and Video Clip of the Year), 19-year-old Kirsty Lee Akers (Maton New Talent of the Year and Female Artist of the Year) and Sydneysider Amber Lawrence (Maton New Talent of the Year and Female Artist of the Year).

Now in its 36th year, the CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia is Australia’s longest running music awards event, and 2008 promises to be biAustralian Country Music Awarder than ever. Many of this year’s finalists will be directly involved as either performers or presenters on the night. The Board of the CMAA is also thrilled to have Jayco back again this year as the Awards presenting partner. More details about the big night will be revealed very shortly.

Australia Day, January 26, 2008, will see the biAustralian Country Music Awardest names of country music all come together for one night only at Tamworth’s Regional Entertainment and Convention Centre for the 36th CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia, presented by Jayco.
