I've been re-posting this every year since I originally read it in 2002. It's an honor once again to share this with you all.

A Holiday thought from someone with no living family
    by James

I wanted to leave you all with a holiday thought as you spend what is traditionally considered a family day with your family.

You may not always like your relatives and many times that dislike will be deserved. But the holiday season is the one time of year that people act like they are supposed to act.

Its the one time of the year that people behave as if they are the people they really think they should be.

I lost my mother at age four. I lost my father at age eleven and my legal guardian shortly after attaining my majority.

I can honestly say that I would dearly love the luxury of being able to have conflict with my parents like many of you do.

But alas, they are dead. So both conflict and love are impossible.

So as someone that must spend holidays alone in a form of spiritual isolation I give you aword of advice.

Spend a little extra time cherishing your relatives this year. And remember that time never offers us a second chance . . at anything.

So what you put of saying or doing now, may never get said or done.

So seize this precious moment and express a little more love or caring.

And when all else fails, fake it. Act as if you aren't angry and bitter. Because when you finally get over it, it may be too late to show you care.

Give them an extra hug for me.

Have a Happy and Safe Holiday Season!
Have a very blessed holiday season to my HT ohana!!!
    Tessie, "Nuf Ced" McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only

Yep! Mele Kalikimaka to all of you out there in HT-land. I'm still trying to figure out where 2007 disappeared to...and how.

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped to make America great. Not to imply that America is

    a) necessarily greater than any other country nor
    b) that the United States of America is the only country/culture in North or South America.

Also this wish is made with out regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

    It's Christmas!

Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! "Maybe
Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store. Maybe
Christmas ... perhaps ... means a little bit more!" And what
happened then ... in Who-ville they say [is] that the Grinch's
small heart grew three sizes that day!

Up until midnight getting things just right.
This morning the sound of a cat
    barfing,
    retching,
    puking brightly colored meow mix
    under the tree.
A final gag and the tree lights come on.
    Magnificent splendor,
accompanied by the scent of industrial carpet cleaner.
    No gifts were marred, but,
    a rude awakening, nonetheless.
    Two smiling little girls,
    unaware,
    eager,
    joyous.
    Cat hides from my kick.

Up at 7:15. And again at 8. And again at 8:15. Finally out of bed at 8:30!

Upstairs seeking coffee. Where's that kid at?

Find kid in a present stupor, surrounded by shredded envelopes and gift cards, watching Spongebob Squarepants. Waiting patiently for Santa Mom and Santa Dad to finally wake up so he can shred the "big present" currently driving him mad, unopened, under the tree!

What a Christmas morning this turned out to be!
First, I found that the milk/cookies/prime rib sandwich that I left for Santa Claus were still there... with a note from Santa saying he couldn't touch any of it because he's a vegan and has allergies too.
And now I've gotta go clean a bunch of reindeer poop off of my roof, too.
    Merry Christmas anyway, everyone!

    Merry Christmas, all.

I'm outside, watching the kids slowly destroy their new toys.

So... What's open today? Nice dinner tonight and too lazy to worry about lunch.
