    heheheh

I'm fifty-two years old. I've never gone past the first floor. All I wanted was to take my application of nomination papers to run for City Council. I was told to go to the third floor. I went from office to office. Den I was shown the correct place on the first floor. Submitted my application den was told to wait while they check my background and information. I left and came back. Faith gave me my packet and instructed me to get fifteen signatures or more of my fellow registered voters from my district. I also have to read the information from the Campaign Spending Commission.

Over all, it's been quite an interesting day!

    Everyone was helpful and friendly.

    btw: Yes. I am running.

C'mon Aunty. You know people start out with good intentions but after they get elected, they only care about the photo op and looking good on TV.

Anyways. Good look to you. My poor friends at Romy's office though, now they gotta work on Romy's campaign, outside of Honolulu Hale of course.

Too bad I didn't catch you in the building, I could've said hello.

Aunty Lynn, I am sure as a candidate you will be quick on your feet and able to answer any kind of question on any issue the media and public will throw at you. So as a potential councilmember, I'll fire off the first question.

Where do you stand on the issue of rail transit for Honolulu? Are you for or against the rail project? Do you support the voter initiative effort to put the rail question on the ballot?
    I'm still here. Are you?

...and perhaps your answer should be put in the "Rail Transit" thread, so that all the folks interested in this issue will see your response (as they may not think to look in this thread); or start a new "Ask Candidate Pupule" thread.

...oh, and the best of luck to you in your run for political office. I know you have the best motivation - you really want to get things moving and changing, especially for citizens whose voices are not heard. Just remember - you can make a difference throughout the campaign, getting spotlights on the issues that concern you; you don't have to wait until you win or lose to get people thinking.

I just filed my papers and have the task of collecting signatures. It's too soon for me to be making public statements about each and every issue, until I've had a chance to research them further. The transition from private citizen to public candidate is not instantaneous, and my first focus has to be on assembling my election team, making connections with experts and gathering details. Public pronouncements on issues will come before long.

    In The Advertiser this morning:
    http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/ap...LOCALNEWSFRONT

"Lynn Vasquez, a Kalihi resident, has declared her intent to challenge Cachola. She said that God inspired her to run for elected office.

"I'm an advocate for the homeless and the hungry. I see so many things happening in my area and there is nothing being done as far as I'm concerned," said Vasquez, who has lived in Kalihi her entire life. "I don't have money, but I have heart."

I told him moa den dat.

So I wrote it on my Blog on the Advertiser which was featured on the front page this morning. http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/ap....dll/frontpage

The url is too long for the direct link to my page.

    Love and Aloha,

    Thank you TuNnL!

The Advertiser took out my Blog from the front page. I dunno why they didn't put it up with the other blogs too. Hmmm..maybe cause they have to give equal time to candidates?

But I neba file yet. LOL

Well, the url is to long so here it is in full:

"My passions are to help the Hungry and the Homeless. In fact, I take my grandson to Aala Park and play on the jungle gym. I also wala'au with the many Homeless who are there. As a little girl, Aala Park was also my play ground. I was born and raised in Kalihi-Palama.

Our truck and vehicle has been broken into numerous times. It has become the norm.
We need to give HPD more money to hire and combat the growing number of violence in our communities. As a resident of Public Housing, I know the reality of what is happening first hand. I live it every day.

As a Military Mother, a Caregiver, a Grandmother, a person with disabilities, etc. I understand the problems of today.

I stand in line for food surplus because like others who are on limited income...we just can't make it. Times are hard. And those who suffer need a voice.

I'm giving them a chance to vote for change.

I don't have any "kala". I am going into this campaign with Love and Aloha.

    God spoke to my heart.

Grass roots and people who want change.

Yes...I will file my papers soon for City Council 7!

I'm supposed to be "OFF" my computa.

    I'm sneaking in.

MAMA is doing fine and excited about my wedding and the upcoming campaign. My parents were very active many years ago. She knows the drill and cautioned me about the pros and cons of running. Yes, the ugliness of the naysayers. I told her "It's all in my Blog...I have nothing to hide." She answered "Go for it. What will be..will be...for the people!"

    Aloha! Hawaii Threads Ohana!

I will be filing my papers at Honolulu Hale tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

The task of getting what is required is not an easy one for a first timer.
But I did with the help of those who believe in me.

The best part of it all is the reaction and Aloha I'm receiving not
only from my constituents but from all over Hawai`i nei.

    Please come and join me.

Having been a candidate for county council on Big Island, I congratulate you on your bravery, moxie, and optimism.

My best advice is keep straight with the paperwork you gotta send to the campaign spending commission. It's more important than taxes.

My second best advice is don't try to win the race by sacrificing anything you stand for to please your constituency. Better to save your honor than become elected by pleasing folks who seldom know what they are talking about.

Tim's absolutely right. He and I may fuss at each other from time to time here, but I give him great props for actually making a run for office and not compromising on his personal integrity, just to get votes.
