Re: Na Kamalei: The Men of Hula

I just saw it recently and I LOVED IT. It's on my DVR and for some reason I find myself watching it over and over again. I remember being in the MM05 audience that year, and I remember sitting there, in awe, of HNK's kahiko performance!

Hopefully it'll keep its comfortable lead!

I use to dance Hula too and I know how it feels to be one of the dancers of Aloha.

It's not scheduled locally in the next 2 weeks (click on "check local listings"). You'd need to check PBS' schedule in your neck 'o the woods, I 'spose.

Re: Na Kamalei: The Men of Hula

Surprisingly, neither of the two Seattle-area PBS stations ran this when it was on the "Independent Lens" schedule recently. With the large Hawaiian-expat community around here, they usually snap up this kind of programming. (Although one of the stations did run it on their HD channel, but not their main one.)

Re: Na Kamalei: The Men of Hula

I saw this thoroughly entertaining video a couple of months ago. Can't remember if it was on KQED (channel 9), KCSM (channel 17) or KHET (channel 54).

I've voted, but we've fallen to second.

Just added my vote to the count as well. Although I have to admit I did enjoy the current front runner "Abduction" as well. I'd heard a bit of that story a few years back and I found the whole story quite gripping - to the point that I've yet to delete it from the DVR. Catch it if it's screened again - it's well worth your time.

I'm just bumping this up since the deadline is tomorrow and there appears to be some ground to make up.

Thanks for the good news, tutusue! The last time I checked it (which was right before voting ended), Na Kamalei was behind in votes. Congratulations to Lisette, to the Kumu, and to the halau!
