  • MidWeek Blooper?

I was wondering if anyone noticed what was clearly a blooper in a recent Midweek. It was in those insipid "night on the town" montages that I suppose are necessary in local papers. In one photo, the subjects are identified by name. One of them was "Heywood Jablome."

This is an old gag, and I wonder if it got past the editor, or if the editor decided to be cheeky and let it run. Either way, the guy in the photo gets a high five for giving the photographer that name.
    Don't be mean,
    try to help.

I always turn to MidWeek to see those pictures. I always look for jdub and for Super CW.

Will it be on Jay Leno's Headlines segment?

You can guess I've never been a reporter or editor - I had to look up the name online:
Subjects of man-on-the-street interviews sometimes give Heywood Jablome as their name to reporters. If the reporter's a novice and if the newspaper's copy editor doesn't catch it, the name ends up in print, embarrassing the newspaper and the poor scribe who was gullible enough to scribble down the bogus moniker.
Now run along and play, but don’t get into trouble.

Heywood Jablome was a classmate of mine and I always wondered what happened to him.

Often given when waiting for a table at a restaurant -- I've seen "Mike Hunt" given as well.
            Tessie, "Nuf Ced" McGreevey shouted
We're not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don't blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn't live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only

For several years, our local cable-access channel ran a show called "The Mike Hunt Show," basically a collection of pornographic clips interspersed with the pro-marijuana ramblings of host Michael Aivaz. The station kept changing their rules so as to knock his show off the air, but he kept coming back. They finally silenced him by claiming that he promoted commercial products on the air, by talking about the local shop that made his glass bongs and pipes.

Found it. Ay-yi-yi. That stuff is always funny when it's in somebody else's newspaper.

We almost fell for "Stu Pidasso" once.

Regretfully, I must publicly confess to being an idiot.
From the start of this thread, I just thought Heywood Jablome was pronounced "jah-blohm" (to rhyme with "home".) It wasn't until the "Mike Hunt" reference that I immediately figured out my mistake.
And by the way, wasn't Mike Hunt used in "American Grafitti" or one of those movies?

Add me to that, I even looked it up online and just thought it was some inside media joke, because when I saw it in writing I thought it was pronounced "Jah- bloom", like a flower blooming. Double .

Thanks, Amati. Now I don't feel quite as stoopid. Misery loves company.
Think anyone else will join us and 'fess up that they didn't get it too?

                        OK, me, too.
                        Heywood Jabloom!
                        Hey, would ya bloom?
                        Hey! Would ya...oh!

And to think they can keep a straight face through all that.

Knew of a guy who called a fishing tournament on the Big Island and asked to speak with Bill Fish. How his colleagues kept from exploding while he was conducting the phone interview was beyond me.

To pass the not too naughty screening test, let me try to delicately explain. Heywood Jablome. Hey, would ya *censor* me?

                              Yikes, wrong picture to use!
