  • Michael McDonald & James Ingram, "Yah Mo B There"

I'm moving this from the Democratic Convention thread, where I noted that Michael McDonald did "America The Beautiful" and gave a link. That brought this reply:

Maybe James Ingram wasn't available. I hope he's not for McCain!
I remember when "Yah Mo B There" first came out. Awesome duet with James Ingram and Michael McDonald. There was a short version (four minutes) for radio, but I especially loved the six-minutes-plus long version ( audio at this link ) with all that percussion that kinda sounded like something on Michael Jackson's "Thriller."
The short version is at this link with video of a live performance.
(Side note: the blonde backup singer who gets some air time there is Michael's wife, Amy Holland. She's a breast cancer survivor, and just released her own most recent CD at this link.)

    .

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

There's a ESPN sportscaster who uses that song title as a catchphrase on college football highlights for a one yard plunge over the linemen and into the endzone.

Oh. I didn't know that. Now I know why you posted that in your earlier reply.
      Still, a fabulous song!

Some peole can't tell the difference between the two during this song as they sound so alike. I remember the music video. Great song! Always been a fan of both, they have performed with the Symphony before on seperate occassions.

Yep. Michael is actually here quite often, usually hired to play private gigs for conventions on various islands. He lived on Maui for a little while before moving to Nashville.

"Ya Mo Be There." I was a bully that tossed a kid into the pool.

Don't think I've seen that version of it. Is it on YouTube or somewhere?
Don't know why I'm talking to a bully, though.

You know, I don't think ever even saw the video. As far as the bully thing goes, my family thought it was hilarious because I was only marginally less scrawny than the kid I threw in the pool.

Whoa. Seeing that video was perfectly weird. I think I was the kid jumping from the diving board to the ground and the last on the left as the kids menace the poor little bugger. The edits during that sequence are so quick, it's hard to tell which one I am, and it was so long ago, I'd have to go into therapy to recover memories of the details of shooting that day (and I've most certainly got bigger psychiatric fish to fry).

Thanks for tracking that down, yall!!
