Ironic that you label the jury in the O.J. Simpson trial as being prejudiced. Webster's online dictionary defines prejudice as a "preconceived judgment or opinion; an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge."

Besides their ethnic background and gender, do you know what kind of person each of the jurors were and what their attitudes were?

If not, on what grounds can you state definitively that the jurors were prejudiced against Simpson? Just because they all happened to be White?

There's more than one kind of prejudice.

I stand by what I said. There's no way that the jurors didn't "know" about OJ unless they lived under a rock for the last 20 years.

The jury was not all white. There was one Hispanic juror. You'd be lying to yourself if you think that had absolutely nothing to do with the outcome.

I'm rooting for OJ and an appeal.

          Lying to myself? Nope.

I would root for O.J. in an appeal too.... if the evidence dictated it.

So, are you saying the jurors, who found him innocent in the murder trial, were prejudiced too?

              Why not?

No, I don't think there should be a law. The term "jury of his peer" is hard to meet. Can a rich man actually be a peer of a poor man?

Re: OJ Simpson guilty on all counts

According to the CNN news at this link, OJ Simpson was sentenced to 15 years:

"A Las Vegas judge sentenced fallen gridiron great O.J. Simpson to at least 15 years in prison for leading an armed hotel room confrontation over sports memorabilia in 2007.
                "A pre-sentencing report recommends an 18-year prison term for O.J. Simpson, 61.
"Simpson could become eligible for parole in about nine years. Grimacing, his head cast down, Simpson was escorted from the courtroom in shackles.
"Judge Jackie Glass gave Simpson a tongue-lashing before passing sentence.
"Earlier in this case, at a bail hearing, I said to Mr. Simpson I didn't know if he was arrogant, ignorant or both," Glass said. "During the trial and through this proceeding I got the answer, and it was both."
                (...)
"I stand here today sorry, somewhat confused. I feel apologetic to people of state of Nevada," Simpson began. At times, he appeared to be fighting tears as he spoke."
                (...)
                .
                .

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Re: OJ Simpson guilty on all counts

Currently, CourtTV calculates a minimum of 7 1/2 years before he is elegible for parole, based upon the combination of minimum & concurrent & consecutive terms.

Update: They now say it is a 9 year minimum before he can be released. 6 years + 18 month consecutive + another 18 month consecutive. He can be up for a parole hearing at 6 years, and if granted he still needs to complete the additional two consecutive terms. Final line means 9 years minimum.

This is the fairest assessment so far of this case. It’s funny how Ron Whitfield is the only HT member in this thread to mention the facts in this case. Everyone else is like “YAY! Revenge for Nicole and Ron!” This is exactly the type of attitude that should get you kicked off the jury. Innocent until proven guilty. If you can’t come to a trial with that attitude, you have no business deciding one.

We can’t be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans.

                                No pedestal for me

I'm all for totally fair trials, duh!, but was hoping to see what has become the final (minus the appeal) legal chapter in this BECAUSE he did get away with a dbl. homicide. He's been running around being a cocky prick for yet another decade, and now he has caught up with himself. If he had any decency after lucking out in the murder decision, he should have done a 180 and become Father Teresa.
