Thread: Freeze dried ogo

    Smile Freeze dried ogo

I heard that there is now freeze dried ogo available in some retail stores. I have seen the little packets of Poke Mix with freeze dried ogo from Noh. But I want to buy larger packages of just the freeze dried ogo. I now live in Arizona and cannot get any decent limu to make my poke so I think that the ogo is the next best thing for me. Can anyone tell me where they sell the larger packets of freeze dried ogo? Thank you.

Yes, NOH Foods apparently does now have packages of freeze dried ogo:

Here is NOH's website but it does not list this product.

    Hope this helps.

Get yourself some ahi poke, brah. Ogo is the crunchy seaweed that looks like tiny twigs. It's the one poke ingredient that is really hard to find on the Mainland - and the stuff we can make here just isn't as good without it.

Linguistically, isn't "ogo" a generic word for seaweed, though? Same as "limu"? Which confused me when I saw it described as limu ogo.

There are many varieties of edible limu, ogo is just one the many.

True that. Seaweed would have made me say "ewwwww," as a kid growing up in the Midwest. Now that I have tried many varieties, me an' da limu is buds. (And I sing "Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai" regularly!)
