  • The Olden Days

What do you miss long ago? when you were a child, as a child growing up, &/or wish for it to come back?

Mine is, at home, after using the restroom (& washing my hands ofcours. lol), when I use the toilet paper, I am always reminded of the old times, when I was younger (shopping with my mom) that I always enjoyed getting a package of toilet paper rolls from the store, because I know that it always had a different animal toy collectibles inside. lol.

Thats what I miss, but I dont think the stores will ever bring back that idea again.

So, what do you miss long ago, when you were younger? inquiring minds would like to know.

    Aloha.

"So, what do you miss long ago, when you were younger?"

(from when I was 16-17)I miss meeting up early at Roosevelt High school,
having everyone that wanted too, jump in my '71 Chevy Malibu Convertable, cut out of school and head for Makapu'u Beach! Getting high, body surfing, chasing bikini's and... well, you asked didn't you?

Life is either an adventure... or you're not doing it right!!!

Mel - you are officially The Nostalgia King here. And you ain't that old!

The current holiday season and the nine-plus days of snow on the ground here in Seattle (that I've had to trudge through to work and back home just about every day) made me nostalgic for something seasonal --- when I was in elementary school in Iowa, and during the week or so before school would let out for the winter break, there would be a Christmas tree set up in the lobby; we students would hike through snow early each school day, in order to sit around the tree and sing Christmas carols for about twenty minutes, before classes began.

You won't ever see that in public schools again.

Being able to fill up my car for under $10!

Mixed tapes..you know, when you would keep a tape in your stereo and would be hanging out in your room, then you'd hear that song on the radio and you'd fly across the room to hit record and the song would have the first part cut off and have the DJ talking over the end of it.

Colored toliet paper (because Serenity made me think of TP)

Customer service. So tired of being treating like crap at places, like it's a privilege for me to shop at their store instead of the other way around.

Blue Bell's Pistachio Chocolate Truffle ice-cream. Mmm.

Better radio stations that weren't all owned by stupid CLEAR CHANNEL!

Can't think of anything creative this time

The smell of lavendar soap and the icy cold water of the only tap for the sink in my German Oma's bathroom. There was also a hot water heater next to the tub that had to have a wood fire started in it to heat the water.

At the peak of my mixed tape making/ownership, I had more than a thousand cassettes and about 45 to 50 mixes on reel to reel tape. Today I have about 300 cassette mixes that I don't want to give up.

I used to trade tape mixes with my friends on the mainland... radio station stuff like KROQ.

And I used to tape a lot of songs off the radio when I was young and did not have enough money to buy records. Mind you taping from AM radio and not FM during the glory days of AM top 40 radio. Sadly most all of my old tapes from the late 60s and early 70s are gone now.

Later on I'd tape a lot of my record albums and 45s into different mixes... and of course we used to borrow records from friends and make tapes off of them. I liked mix tapes.

Yep, before 1997 most radio stations were independently owned, small businesses. Now its mostly Clear Channel, Cox, Infinity, CBS radio and a slew of other conglomerates.

A few more added to my list of olden-days stuff:
                          • Typewriters, no computers
                          • Typing your research paper on a typewriter
