  • Oceanic removing channels?!

I just saw the banner running across the bottom of the screen listing quite a few channels that shall be removed from the service. This is the number to call: 1-800-762-3786.

I called, gave info requested, hit the proper # concerning this, never spoke to anyone, heard a recording that Oceanic Time Warner is doing everything they can to keep those channels on, hung up.

Sheesh, what we don't pay enough?

    Hmmmm, what channels?

Oceanic has to pay the cable channel based on the number of subscribers.

Oceanic gets it's money two ways - though subscriber fees and from ads that it's allowed to insert into the programming.

Oceanic only has so many channels that their equipment can support.

In the end, it's all about money.

Wow, some of those are pretty popular channels. Actually, I'd be glad if they got rid of MTV. It doesn't even deserve the 'M' anymore, since I haven't seen anything music-related on that channel in a looooooooong time, and what's on is garbage.

they must be in a contract dispute.

Given the line-up, that makes the most sense.

Anyone know the status of ala cart channels? If that's happening soon, then maybe Oceanic is pulling them off of "Standard" and moving them to ala cart. I wouldn't surprise me but what Time-Warrener is using us as a test run.

It seems all the Time Warner customers will be losing those channels.

Pay less. Get more. Dish Network.

                  It's a no-brainer.

The funny thing about OTW in Hawaii, is that they keep making moves that help prop up Dish Network and Direct TV sales. You would think OTW would have a more competitive business model than that in light of the fact that they are losing customers to the satellites left and right.

PS - Remember that, similar to Solar Panels, Federal Law prohibits the restriction of communications by HOA, Condos, local ordinance, etc. So ANYBODY can have satellite TV.

Well, if you own property that is in a position to see the satellite. You still have to have permission to mount it on "common grounds". And the rule of thumb is if "they" paint it, it's "common ground", so that leaves out a lot of exterior surfaces.

But said permission cannot be denied.

Since I have spent a few years of my life installing Dish for a living, on apartments, condos, and many other places on the 'wrong side' of a building, then perhaps readers will be inclined to the facts of the matter.

But I could be wrong. Some folks would never let facts interfere with their opinions.

                        Will investigate further.

Maybe so, but it is extra hassle and time.
