Is there anywhere on the Internet where you can go and look through old yearbooks?

Some of them have aged better than others....but it's neat to see.

Good heavens! I'm not sure, it might be the printing, scanning and sharpening has done something odd with the gamma, but I'm leaning toward some very unflattering photography there. The "nose shadow" makes some people look like they must have descended from the wicked witch of the west!

Make me appreciate whoever did our school.

The Hawaiiana room of the main library has 2,000 Hawaii yearbooks. I used them to find H.S. pics of politicians and celebs for a "Who Dat?" quiz in my "The Companies We Keep 2" book.

They have a list at the reference desk of the schools and years they have.

They told me someone locally has 20,000 Hawaii yearbooks in their house! I can't imagine how much space that must take up!

Ok, my calculator says that would be 70-100 standard sized bookcases (6x3 feet with 5 shelves). I could get maybe 7-8 of those in my home office if I got rid of everything else. I would need 10-15 rooms in my house to hold them.

Maybe they're in boxes in the garage!

I can't imagine there being that many yearbooks. Assuming they keep only one copy of each, Wikipedia tells me there's currently 85 high schools in the state. So to get 20,000, that would cover all 85 for 235 years. Clearly not all of those high schools go back that far. Even if that person did keep more then one copy, they'd have to be holding on to a lot to get there.

I suspect the truth is that the person has more like 2,000 and the number keeps growing as the story was told.

Yep, we were one major-ugly high school class.

I think the photography bears most of the blame. That and the fact I saw some styles I associate with the 50s/early 60s - not 1970.

Now I'm afraid to dig up my yearbook.

My wife has her's from the McKinley Class of 1987. It's fun to take a look at the freshman class that year (who are my age) as well as the football team and see Dwayne Johnson's photo aka the Rock....He'll be starring in the new WITCH MOUNTAIN revival movie.

Rock went to McKinley? I thought he was a mainland boy?

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson went to McKinley HS during the 1986-87 school year, he ended up graduating from high school somewhere in Pennsylvania in 1990, then went to college at Miami.

Your best bet may be to find some former classmates (facebook, classmates.com, etc.) and see if one of them can scan you a copy.
