Auntie, isn't that the spot where you and PK got married?
Nice to see the females represent in this thread, too! Well done, SG and 1W!

No. The spot we got married is Tantalus. At the 2000 foot summit, there is a lookout at Puu Ualakaa State Wayside Park.

A friend of a friend saw these abandoned buildings in Makaha a few weeks ago while on vacation. Does anyone know what they are? (Sorry about the blurry)

that looks like the old State Hospital - but it wasn't in Makaha. I think it was more like Kaneohe someplace?

                  Sorry SG,

DH born and raised on the Leeward Coast (Waianae)
looked at the pictures and didn't know. He
thought he saw it on the North Shore.

Yep, it's definitely on the north shore, just a few blocks away from Sunset Beach. It's the old retirement home that burned down; they built a new building right next door.
I posted some photos of that in this same thread a year or two ago. Here's a few:

Thanks, you guys. An old friend from high school is in the Navy and they surface in Oahu several times a year. He invited his girlfriend to come out this time. She took a bunch of pictures and posted them on her Facebook. I've never met her, but wanted to see Oahu from someone else's perspective. Her caption about those pictures, when asked where they were taken, was: "Along the side of the road, out near Makaha. They were just abandoned... I thought they were beautiful in there [sic] own way and asked Phillip to pull over so I could take some pics."

This was her first trip to the island and I know how easy it is to not know exactly where you are. Thank you for the info. So it was a retirement home with several buildings near Sunset Beach? I'll pass that info along. I knew I could count on my fellow HT-er's!

It's called Crawford's Convalescent Home. Technically their street address is in Haleiwa, but it's closer to Kahuku than to Haleiwa!

Took a shot of Mrs. Menehune standing at the tree on Kailua Beach that I proposed to her over 18 years ago! It was all warm and fuzzy for both of us.

We hiked above Lanikai this morning with two of her friends to the pill boxes up there. Beautiful!!!
