Yep. Most people just use the features they care about and don't learn more unless they think they have a use for it.

A common joke among elementary school teachers is that most boys don't learn to read until they need to know the cheat codes for their video games. Some of them may be 10 years old by then.

Same for my parents-in-law. They didn't see the need for a computer until we pointed out that we could be e-mailing them grandkid photos. I never persuaded my FIL to give up his 56 kbps $4.99/month Walmart dial-up, though.
