Not liked by SB editors, though. They killed it. I thought it was fun.

Probably so since that area was all part of what used to be called Damon Tract.

Camp Timberline is located 3 miles above Makakilo, at an elevation of 1,600 feet."

Interesting. I'd never even heard of Camp Timberline.

I looked at their website and their camp map, and I don't think the entire Pahlehua St. area is the camp. I'm starting to think these buildings are private residences.

The Navy built a set of giant fuel storage tanks in underground chambers underneath Red Hill; that's probably what your daddy worked on. They're considered a real civil engineering feat. http://web.mst.edu/~rogersda/umrcour...ks-revised.pdf

Yep. The Oahu Storm Water Management Program Plan [pdf] says: "The final sub-program provides assistance to HDOT Highways personnel who have responsibility for maintaining the storm water pump station at the H-1 Freeway Punahou Street overpass." I've definitely noticed the door. Always imagined someone stepping out from the other side and getting quite a surprise.

Yep. Note also that Makiki Stream is actually directed even further underground at this point. So in addition to stormwaters, there are other reasons why a lot of infrastructure is needed around there to deal with water.

Wow! I'm fifty-three years old and now understand what is behind those big doors ~ what my daddy worked on many years ago.

                        Mahalo for the link. Awesome.

What about those big steel doors in the side of the hill on Kalanianaole Highway when you go past the Makapuu Lookout? Are they secret military underground bunkers, or something?
