  • 4th July

Saturday in the early hours of the morning I will be picking up two good friends from Honolulu. I have never met their ladies but have played music in groups with these guys. Once I have got them settled in the Marriot in Liverpool to sleep off their jet lag John Lennon airport is busy 24/7.
I am doing a meal for the 4 of them and then giving them a tour of the Cavern Club.
What fantastic stamina you Hawaians have ! Sunday evening, they are flying off again to Derry airport in Ireland, where they will then make their way to County Cork.

Just a bit of news about hands across these puddles.

p.s There will not be a N. Korean in sight with my mob here. Have a lovey and ejoyable day without a care in the world. That decrepid old Korean would not dare to send missiles at my friends. He knows we can't nuke him because of China. Yet that does not stop us going in with our special forces. Don't know if my email go through to him ? "You hurta my mates,,, I smacka you gob."

Yes ! It's Thanksgiving for us. The Pilgrim fathers would not have survived that first winter without the help of Native Americans. They were shown how catch and cook Turkeys and other wild plants to eat.
We still eat Turkey on the 4th July but I am doing a special meal for some American buddies tomorrow. Chicken with cherries.

Black forest gateau to follow (which I bought )

Here in Ocean Beach, San Diego, the Police have again cordoned off the parking lot for the beach by the lifeguard tower. It will be a command center where officers will observe, arrest, process, and detain taxpayer/prisoners who dare to exercise the freedom to drink a beer on the beach. It used to be legal, but voters voted to make drinking on the beach illegal, even if you are not causing a problem, which the vast majority of beach drinkers do not. Our city whimpers endlessly about never having enough money but it has enough to squander on overtime for Police to observe, arrest, etc, the taxpayers engaging in yet another victimless crime. If you want to destroy somebody's freedom, just put it on the ballot, the voters will never let you down. So it is appropriate that the taxpayers will not be able to go to the beach to celebrate their freedom. If they voted it away for other people why should they have any for themselves? Of course there will be some parking available, a couple of miles away from the beach, high on the hills and quite inconvenient. Be careful what you wish for, be equally carefully what you vote for. Freedom isn't Free. How did this ever become a country by, for, and of busybodies? And more to the point, WHY?

              Happy 4th, All!

Getting geared up for a full on culinary battle here, I have an estimated 2k people RSVP'd for our annual 4th of July rooftop party, 3 blocks off the mall and 5 from the monument makes for some great firework viewing!

We'll be going to Nehelani at Scholfield for BBQ and grinds. Last year, Billy Ray Cyrus entertained everyone in the field. I don't know who the special guest is this year. Tonight, our Ohana celebrate by ourselves...my son leaves for Kentucky on Monday.

                              -----------------------------------------

Subj: A day to celebrate and aspire‏
                              From: President Barack Obama (info@barackobama.com)
                              Sent: Sat 7/04/09 7:54 AM

This weekend, our family will join millions of others in celebrating America. We will enjoy the glow of fireworks, the taste of barbeque, and the company of good friends. As we all celebrate this weekend, let's also remember the remarkable story that led to this day.

Two hundred and thirty-three years ago, our nation was born when a courageous group of patriots pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the proposition that all of us were created equal.

Our country began as a unique experiment in liberty -- a bold, evolving quest to achieve a more perfect union. And in every generation, another courageous group of patriots has taken us one step closer to fully realizing the dream our founders enshrined on that great day.

Today, all Americans have a hard-fought birthright to a freedom which enables each of us, no matter our views or background, to help set our nation's course. America's greatness has always depended on her citizens embracing that freedom -- and fulfilling the duty that comes with it.

As free people, we must each take the challenges and opportunities that face this nation as our own. As long as some Americans still must struggle, none of us can be fully content. And as America comes ever closer to achieving the perfect Union our founders dreamed, that triumph -- that pride -- belongs to all of us.

So today is a day to reflect on our independence, and the sacrifice of our troops standing in harm's way to preserve and protect it. It is a day to celebrate all that America is. And today is a time to aspire toward all we can still become.

                              With very best wishes,

                              President Barack Obama
