After all the hoopla surrounding Rod Blagojevich’s indictment, and subsequent impeachment by the Illinois legislature, you would’ve thought a seasoned politician like Roland Burris would’ve decllined Blago’s appointment. He would have avoided the ire of Secretary of State Jesse White, who initially refused to certify Burris’ appointment — a requirement of the U.S. Constitution. He would have avoided what appears to be purjury before the House committee investigating the matter, and subsequent calls for his resignation by fellow U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, no less. But most of all, he would have avoided this embarassing, scathing and ultimately damning interview with Chris Matthews on Hardball™ that IMHO, leaves no doubt of his guilt.

Re: Rod Blagojevich, Chapter 2: Burris
Burris has already announced that he won't seek election to the Senate seat in 2010. So it might very well pacify any immediate efforts to have him resign. Burris' "voluntary" decision was likely made under the pressure of national/state Democratic party leaders who all but made it clear to him that he will receive no money and support from them in next year's election. This post may contain an opinion that may conflict with your opinion. Do not take it personal. Polite discussion of difference of opinion is welcome.

Re: Rod Blagojevich, Chapter 2: Burris
It’s been a short two years since Roland Burris made this impassioned plea on the CBS Early Show™. Has he done right by his constituents? Has his actions lived up to the rhetoric? Or has he faded into obscurity among the hallowed halls of Congress?
We can’t be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans.
