Kden, my homework tells me the best bang for $ winners (so far...) are -
    Laptop - HP Compaq CQ60Z = $450
    Camera - (DSLR) - Nikon D3000 = $450
    '' - (P&S) - Nikon Coolpix L20 = $80
    Field recorder - Edirol R-09HR = $300

Nice price on the D3000. Where did you see that offer? You might want to check to see if it's an authorized Nikon dealer (important when it comes to warranty coverage). If it's a gray market item, then you'll want to research what repair options / costs come with that.

Those were mostly lowball 'buy it now' Ebay references, but combined with a fuller net review I gave it fair market 'shoot for' pricing.

That basic Nikon @ under $500 is a great deal it seems.

W/Compaq purchase, make sure the AC/battery cord is included. It does come new with this computer.

Anybody have a line on best buy camcorders?

Did you pick up that HP, Ron?
Does anyone have a DSLR that shoots HD video that they'd like to recommend?

No, and the story is too painful to tell... I went for an HP DV7Z instead and got it for $630. Not bad, but I coulda got it for $570 if I'd have cooled my jets for just a few more hours. But what's $ anyway? Bummed tho that I mistakenly thot it came with the TV tuner. I guess/hope that can be added on later. Just waiting for the PO to do it's thing now...

    Default CamCorder delight...

Cisco has the new Flip UltraHD that is getting rave reviews for it upgrades - now in high def, new lens, 8 GB = 2 hrs filming time, larger view screen, stereo mics, computer AA rechargable (2 hrs. w/wall wart), drag & drop, better video processing, increased lens field.
At a list price of $200 this looks to be the frontrunner at present for a small quality CC.

    Default A little camera woohoo!

Got the Kodak C182 P&S yesterday to take pix of my new Strat and other guitars to archive in case of theft, and the excellant specs this thing is packed with continue to impress. We'll soon see how much it backs up in reality. Learning to drive it this morning.

Seems every review I read shows yet another sweet feature missed by others.
It's setting the bar for this price range.
Talked to a decision making mgr. at Best Buy and got it for the nice price of $100, $20 off! It was on sale there two weeks ago for $95, so that was retro cool of them.
